Low Liying Placenta..pelvic rest?

Hey Ladies. Doctor told me I had a Low Liying Placenta Tuesday, and then went on to something else, i never even thought to ask him if I should limit any activities, limit or stop the "Lovins" with Husband etc..I get  especially crampy after this unfortunately..

I do notice when im on my feet alot,  I get pretty crampy. Vaccuuming, cleaning, at work bc im a Hairdresser and work long hours some days..

So im wondering how many of you that also have the same issue, Have, or have Not been given restrictions?? Im no ultrasound tech at all, but it looked pretty low to me..

  • I was also told at my nt scan that I had a low placenta, but my doctor didn't seem too concerned with it and said it would probably right itself. I assume I don't need to limit any activities (I'd hope she would have told me if I did).

  • See, thats what i figured as well, but i know he was busy and could tell he was also wanting to get me in for another U/s bc I had been in a minor car accident, so maybe he just wanted to re-visit it and forgot? I have my progesterone injection today so I'll ask then for sure.
  • My perionatal just told me the same thing on Wednesday.  He called it partial placenta previa.  I called my OBGYN to touch base with her about it yesterday and she put me on pelvic rest until there is evidence on a later ultrasound that it has resolved.  You may want to call just to make sure you don't have any restrictions.  Good luck!
  • I have this problem and had 3 bleeds because of it.  I am on pelvic rest and was on bed rest for over 2 weeks.  I did notice that it started with cramping/burning/pressure when doing household chores.

Now... I can't do anything.  No vacuuming, no pushing a shopping cart, and definitely no lifting.  I can't stand or walk for long periods of time either.

I would definitely call and ask your doctor.  They should have mentioned something to you because it can be problem until it moves up.

  • I have low lying placenta & am on complete pelvic rest.  I also hurt/have problems when doing housework involving stooping/bending/being on feet too much:((((

I have the same issue and have been on pelvic rest.  I was told if we didn't refrain, it could cause major bleeding.  I would defintely try to find out from your dr.

  • I was told I had a low-lying placenta/placenta previa at my 10w appointment. The doctor said it was very common and very likely to resolve. Absent bleeding or spotting, I don't need to be on pelvic rest - and when I do bleed/spot, it's two weeks of pelvic rest. He did not say that at this point in the pregnancy I needed to be on pelvic rest simply because the placenta is low.
  • I had a low-lying placenta with DD (now 17 months).  My doctor was not worried and said they usually correct themselves by 28 weeks or so... and it did!  I had spotting problems on a few different occasions, which totally freaked me out and ended up in two different unnecessary trips to the ER, but everything was fine.

  • I had a partial placenta previa with my first and was on pelvic rest for about 9 weeks (between my a/s at 19 weeks and the follow up ultrasound where they confirmed it had moved out of the way at 28 weeks). No sex, no heavy lifting and no strenuous exercise were my rules. If I started spotting they would've put me on full bed rest so I didn't want to take that risk. Just take it easy, for the vast majority of women it will move up.
