How difficult is it to make a slipcover?

I want a certain style rocker for the nursery and I found one on CL that will work. However its, ugly. I have sewing skills, how difficult would it be to make a cover for it?

  • How skilled are you at sewing? I have made slipcovers twice for couches that are a similar style to that chair. It was not too bad. I would recommend covering cushion separately from the chair, in my experience, the cover holds up better that way.

    That's a great suggestion, thanks!

  • i cheated, i bought a slip cover for $35 at target for our chair in DS's room. It looks really good, you can tell its a cover but its not saggy or anything.

  • Rolled arms can be a slight challenge for slip covers. You will want to select a fabric that has a little give to accommodate for the arms. Piping along the seams will also provide a more tailored look and I would also recommend a fabric that does not have a repeat or pattern. Good luck!

  • I have done it before..I'd read up alot and if you can find a pattern that is close, use some brown craft paper to modify it into a pattern that will fit your chair.  Also, I agree with a pp, no stripes or pattern that you can tell if it is off... one like the chair has now might not be an issue, but no 'repeating' sequence or line based fabric.

    Good luck!
