can you message people on FB who aren't your friend?

and if so, if they have the Timeline feature, where do I find the "message this person" button?  I'm sending an invite out to all of Jay's friends for his surprise b-day party and I want to invite people that *I'm* not friends with but am having a really hard time finding out how.  A little help?  Por favor?

I don't know if there's a button on the timeline, but if you just search their name, next to the friend req button is a message button

I know how to do it if they don't have timeline, but when they do, I'm at a loss.  Crap.

Yes, I do.  And I'm wondering if it was just b/c they didn't have timeline.  Timeline seems to have fvcked everything up.  I'll just make an administrator who is friends w/ the same people as Jay and let HIM invite those extras.  Sigh.

i randomly searched for my own name and found someone that has timeline that i'm not friends with.  In her header (where it says her name), on the right side there was a button for +Friend and Message.  I think it's a security setting that some people might turn off so that you can't message if you're not already friends.  Maybe that's why you're not seeing it.
