Newborn sleeping arrangements

Hi ladies!   Another registry question-  I need your expertise.

What would be the best option for twins once they come home?  Bassinet?  Co-sleeper (do you need 1 or 2 for twins)?  or Pack n' Play with Twin Bassinets (can be shipped only, they don't sell in stores)?

I don't really want to spend $150 on something they may only be in for a couple of weeks.  The Pack n' Play seems like the best option, but its hard to get.

What would be the best bet?

  • They shared a crib in our room for awhile before going to separate cribs. I didn't want to have to deal with trying to teach them to sleep in their cribs later on.

  • They slept in one crib in our room for the first 7 weeks. They then moved into their own room and into separate cribs at around 9 weeks. Personally, I wouldn't spend the money on bassinets or co-sleepers because they grow out of them fairly quickly.

  • We had our girls in a Fisher Price Rock N Play sleeper for the first 3 months.  The first few weeks they were in our room, but then we moved them to their own room and they continued to sleep in the RnPs until 3 months when we finally transitioned them to their cribs.  We have two PnPs for our girls.  We wanted to make sure they always had their own place to sleep and were not for co-sleeping.  We just use the PnPs for when we travel.
  • We had 3 pack and plays in our room but just got 3 rock and plays. They sleep so much better in the rock and plays. We never coslept them together.p they have slept with us but not ech other.

  • My boys slept in their cribs when they came home. I have the twin PnP and used the bassinet feature only a few times as it sagged in towards the middle...would not recommend it at all for sleeping, bad design! I do like how big it is vs. regular PnP and will use it as a contained playspace with toys. My boys slept in their cribs from day one and I ended up getting two regular PnP's on craigslist to use for naps, we put them in separate rooms, and sleeping at grandparents.

  • I had intentions of using the pack n play (the one with a large flat area at the top, not the one with any bassinet style sleeper) but the babies slept sooo much better in the rock and play's! I had to go out and buy another in the first week they were home. My 4.5 month old boy still sleeps in his and his sister now co-sleeps with me. It works for us! The next step will be back to the pack and play in our bedroom and then the crib in the baby's bedroom next to ours (I don't anticipate this for a while though.)
