With flying colors apparently :-) I was a little worried since I come from a family where diabetes is rampant. The only thing she said was that my platelet count is a little low and will need to be rechecked at my next appointment, and if it doesn't go up I may have to be put on meds. Anyone else have this issue? I also am officially at 2 week intervals for appointments! Kinda surreal to be in the home stretch!

Re: Passed my glucose test! But low platelet count...
Congrats on passing! That's great. I hope the platelet count thing turns out to be nothing.
Really appointments every 2 weeks?! Yikes, I suppose that is in my near future as well then. Haha. My GTT isn't until Jan 25th though. Hope I pass too.
Glad you had good results, mine is on the 24 of jan. I really hope I pass just as I did my last pregnancy.
Hey!
I know what you're going through. Here is my advice: Right now, there is NOTHING to worry about!
Low platlets during pregnancy is called Gestational Thrombocytopoenia. Google will give you good info, but in the end....all it is, is just low platlets.
I have had it with my two pregnancies and now again with my third. It's a bit bothersome from the standpoint that as you progress in your pregnancy and if your numbers go down, you'll just get MORE bloodwork done. With my first pregnancy, I got critically low at 36 weeks as well as started with Pre-E, so they had to deliver. They induced me, I did not progress so I got a C/S.
With baby #2, Since I delivered early with #1, had the G.Th. and a C/S, I was considered High Risk, so they monitored me very closely. My doc got me to 38 weeks this time.
Currently 26 weeks, my numbers are starting to dip. I am alreay at 150, which I where I am typically at around 30+ weeks. Docs are going to be watching for dips. You might have one week where you're really low and then the next week you might rebound a little. If you get critcally low (around 60), you would get a blood transfusion. With baby #3, I was at 113 around 34 weeks, so they referred me to a hematologist. All he did was take more blood, study it and say "you have G. Th!"
G. Th does NOT affect the baby. Baby is taking all the good stuff from you! One thing the hematologist told me to do was to eat iron rich foods: Red meat, raisins, prunes, etc. It did nothing for me and I think it was a waste. Ultimately, there is nothing you can do. Your number bounce back after pregnancy.
It's easier said that done, but really, there is nothing you can do, so worrying about it does nothing. If your numbers start to really dip, just have a relative that is the same bloos type as you on the ready (just know WHO your go-to person is) so IF you need a blood transfusion, you are not scrambling at the last minute to find someone or use "general" blood from the public (if that makes a difference for you!)You will more than likely NOT need one, but it was always comforting to know that my daddy was my blood guy if I needed it immediately! It never came to that!
I have had 2 successful C/S with G. Th. and a third coming in April. Getting frequent blood checks is all you need to do. Keep me posted!!
I'm interested though as to what your numbers are already and how many weeks you are! I do not hear of many people with low platelets so it's nice to have a buddy!
(it IS common though, Just FYI!)
#1: Don't worry about the epidural thing: I was at 83 with pregnancy #1 and I got an epi while they tried to induce, which then ended with a C/S. NO problems there!
#2: You won't necessarily go early. With #1, the G.T with the start of PreE was the combination that turned everything into an emergency. With baby #2, I delivered with my numbers being in the low 90's at 38 weeks. Epi and C/S were no issue!
#3: Make sure your doc is considered High Risk. If not, ask for a consult with a HR doc or a hematologist. If they are NOT HR and want to deliver you early based on Platlets alone, GET A SECOND opinion!
Your doc is right that they will "just monitor you!" There is literally NOTHING else you can do. Just really really have the peace of mind that your little one is sucking all the good stuff out of you already!
There is NOTHING with this that will harm the baby!
#4: Check with your insurance to see what they cover regarding the increase in labs (CBC-Diff)....when we got the bill from all the labs combined, I almost died! Our insurance changed something that all blood labs from our doc was a "hospital" procedure...so now we have to go thru Quest Diagnostics. Just wanted to give you the heads up since you'll have a lot of labs mainly at every appt!!
#5: The number to avoid is 60! That number....or anything lower is blood transfusion territory! That is the number that should bring on the panic! NO other number is worrysome!
Hope that helps!
