Beef eaters....

Do I need to eat my beef well done now? It just hit me I may not get to eat good steak if my mom is right about undercooked beef and pregnancy :( I'm actually REALLY craving prime rib right now...

  • I don't think it is recommended but I still ate my steak medium rare when pregnant for my first two. Not that I ate it every day.

  • I order medium well.  I think overcooked meat is horrible and can't stomach too much red in my meat so medium well usually works for me.

  • I went out dinner a few times and ordered medium-rare cuts of meat. With - gasp - BEARNAISE sauce. These were high-end restaurants and I enjoyed every bite. Ground beef rare from a shady burger shack? Pass. But high-quality beef from a nice restaurant? I didn't sweat it.

  • Thanks, everyone! I usually take my steak medium so it seems I'll be OK. I turn 30 next weekend and was really looking forward to a prime rib with horseradish sauce and chipotle au gratin potatoes from a nice high-end restaurant. It seems I can still have it :)

My Hubby wanted to buy prime rib the other day.  It cost about $70 and there was no way I could eat it.  We bought two porterhouse, had mine well done.  We have steak about three times a week and always have mine well done.  Ask your Dr to find out if its ok to risk it or not.

I had a medium rare steak last night, as well as a couple times when I was pregnant with DS. The problem with undercooked meat is when it's ground. The bacteria or whatever gets ground up with the meat and doesn't get cooked. With steak the bacteria doesn't get inside, so as long as the outside is cooked it's ok.

If it makes you uncomfortable though, just get it medium or medium well.
