Transverse!

I wrote yesterday about being breech and then went and had an ultrasound yesterday afternoon. Baby isnt breech anymore, now hes transverse upside down. He isnt anywhere near dropped and Im only dialated a fingertip length but 80% effaced. I feel like my doctor is just wanting everything on his schedule and doesnt talk to me about everything because he would rather a C-section. Its so aggrivating.

Isnt it possible that I never go into labor or have contractions because he isnt dropped at all? I have another appt on Tuesday and I plan on asking all these things, but in the mean time Im hoping a miracle will happen. Anyone know anything about this stuff?

Re: Transverse!

  • I don't know anything about that, but just wanted to say "YAY! Progress!" :)

  • The baby may not drop until you actually go into labor. I know how hard and stressful it must be, but things could still work out just the way you want them to. A lot can happen within a day and during labor itself!

I would also have an open talk with your doc and ask for more support, info and talk rather than just being pushed towards one thing b/c it may be "easier"

    Good luck and big hugs!!

  • Yay!  It sounds like he is starting to move into a better position.

Mine was transverse for a while, so I totally get the concern about things not going well, but after a week of sleeping only on my left side (I used pillows to keep from rolling onto my back or right) and when awake sitting tilted forward at my desk or kneeling on the floor leaning over a birth ball, gravity pulled his big heavy head down to the left and now he is lined up correctly.  Give it a try! And tell your doctor to back off so that you can have time to allow baby to find his own way into position.

My midwife also recommended red raspberry leaf tea and evening primrose oil.  Both are supposed to help soften and efface the cervix, allowing it to open.  As it opens, there is more room for the baby's head, which will allow him to drop and engage.

I'm doing the EPO orally 3x a day and one at night vaginally.  And I make a big pot of the RRL tea and sip on it over ice all day rather than water.  Good luck!

  • I am in the same boat as you... Baby was breech and at today's appt is more transverse. I asked if labor starts on its own even if the baby isn't turned and my ob said yes. But because of the position, I have to get to the hospital ASAP if I think my water has broken. With the feet and cord down by my cervix, that could be really dangerous to labor at home at all. She didn't check internally at all.

I'm wondering if your ob is more concerned about safety and that is why he is talking more about a c-section? I know that that is what I will have to do unless this baby turns in the next week and half or so. Are they only offering you a c/s? Or willing to wait and see what happens? My next appt is Tuesday as well so I will keep my fingers crossed for our babies :)
