Multiples

HCG and betas ??

They don't mean anything right? A "friend "of mine had an RE tell her that since her HCG was 188, she was likely having multiples. I shook my head at that bc I thought they didn't mean multiples for sure at all? She is 10 dpo 3dptransfer. So she thinks she is having multiples and is telling people that she is 'probably having at least twins..' um.... ok? I guess I should just butt out and let them find out for sure in a couple weeks when they have their US but gah...

Re: HCG and betas ??

  • You are right that it doesn't mean that she is having twins.  www.betabase.info is a good resource for beta numbers.  But unless she is asking, I'd just let her continue to tell people whatever she wants.  She'll find out for sure in a few weeks, and there is no upside to being the one to damp her enthusiam and she probably won't believe you anyway.
  • Absolutely, I didn't say anything to her, but I wanted to know... ya know, that I was right :P I hope she does have multiples in there bc she is going to feel like crap if she has to go back to everyone or has to field questions about it.

    Thanks for that site!

  • Well, in my case they did. My nurses all said after my beta results "be prepared for multiples" and..they were right.   I've read progesterone #'s are more likely the indicator. My first 2 were 143 &170...so that combined w/ my betas must have been whatthe nurses were looking at.
