What to do with feeding

So my LO has such bad tummy troubles.. so gassy, fussy, crying, etc.. all the good stuff us moms love! :) J/K! Anyways, I am pumping and giving her a bottle.. as well as giving her some formula since I dont always produce enough milk to give her a full days worth and she was on neosure for the extra calories.  We know that the neosure def. made any stomach issues worse b/c I did 4 days of BM only to see if helped, which it did (but I cant keep it up, or I'd be a slave to the pump more then I already am!) .. so my pedi has us switching to another formula... however yesterday, before we gave her any formula she was just as bad as before! So now I dont know if I should take her off BM for the week and see if the formula helps OR stick to the 2 formula bottles a day and the rest BM and hope for the best.

Any thoughts? I just want her to feel better.. She was doing pretty good up until last night... UG!

  • My LO had this same problem- except it got to the point where she didn't want to eat at all because she was so miserable. She also projectile vomited- ALOT (she has reflux too). I tried to eliminate dairy from my diet but it wasn't helping. Finally, our GI suggested that we try Similac Alimentum (hypoallergenic formula) for about a week (I still pumped and froze the milk just in case) and literally, within a day she was eating and feeling so much better.

If you've tried everything with your diet, bottles, etc...maybe the next step is to try that? I really wanted my LO to have breast milk also and she got it for 5 months but seeing her feel and eat so much better made that decision much easier. It's worth it to give it a try. Good luck!

  • I had similar issues with my son.  The pedi recommended switching to a non-preemie soy formula to see if it helped.  Within a day or so the shift was dramatic because the little guy was feeling so much better.  If you need the higher calories this might not be the choice for you, but we are now using Enfamil Prosoybee (the spelling might be a bit off).  Before this we were spiking breastmilk to increase the calorie content and then tried preemie formula (both the Enfamil Enfancare and the Similac Neosure).  I had hoped to give him breastmilk, but it feels like the right choice not to, because he is doing so much better with soy.  As a note, he's 8 weeks unadjusted and 2 weeks adjusted.
  • Thanks ladies

Our pedi is having me try the nestle good start gentle plus for a week and if that doesnt really help then she said to go to the alimentum.. or however you spell it.. I have tried everything with the BM and diet.. and really want to keep giving her BM, she doesnt need to have anything fortified anymore (as long as she continues to gain weight.. I am struggling with what to do... plus I HATE pumping and she doesnt get enough milk when I nurse her..
