Any harm to this? My daughter just seems to need the 2 night feedings. Aside from my sanity is there any other reason to push STTN? Sorry if this seems obvious lol!
My DD doesn't. I feed her when she's hungry. . . even in the middle of the night. She eats and goes right back to sleep so it's not a problem for us. No reason to push STTN if your DD is happy and well-rested and it's working for your family!
Thank you ladies! Im usually very good at blocking out the nagging mother in law but when it is made to seem as if I am harming my child by simply feeding her when she is hungry I couldnt get it out of my head!
I know my son's not even close to 8 months, but he was sleeping from 6:30 - 5:30 without waking. Recently he's been eating 24 oz (yes, 24 oz.) overnight. Their needs change all the time! I feed him when he's hungry. If he's not hungry, he's not going to overeat.

I agree completely.
Lydia STTN on rare occasions. She's usually up once a night, we feed her, then she goes right to bed. The way I look at it.... It won't be long before this stage is over, and they'll be pushing you away. I try to enjoy the cuddle time as much as possible, even it it's at 2:30am.
My little girl still wakes 1-2 times. She eats and goes right back to sleep so no big deal. I think I will miss the night time nursing when it's gone.
I promise you will definately miss it! I know it is so selfish but when we had to stop breast feeding the hardest part was knowing that she didnt "need" me she just need someone to feed her the formula. I thought it wouild be nice to have a break and be the one to sleep but it was not as easy as expected. Soak up allll your night time snuggles
My older child did not STTN until 11 months and we forced that by doing CIO. I personally felt she was ready at 9 months, but we thought she might drop them on her own. At 11 months she started waking more often which was prompted the sleep training.
She is a wonderful sleeper now, and I have no regrets about doing CIO with her. She was old enough and needed us to push her. It took 2 nights.
If it was me, I'd consider trying to wean down to one feeding be dropping the oz from one of the feedings. We just did that with my younger kid and it took 3 nights and now he only gets one bottle and maybe a paci check most nights, which I think is about right for a 5 months old. When you're ready you can try weaning down off the other bottle (or just taking it away which is what we did).
I never did think to simply make the bottle smaller...I suppose she will eventually go longer between bottles if I go that route. Right now, I have had concerns about making sure she has enough formula in a 24 hour period (usually I am lucky to get 12 oz in her during her awake hours) so I think she still needs the night time feedings to be sure she is meeting nutritional guidelines. Thank you for the advice, I dont think CIO would be for us but when ther time is right I love the idea of decreasing bottle quantity.
My 8.5 month old did, but hasn't the past few nights. I don't think there is any harm in it. Some will say that teaching good sleep habits needs to be done this early, etc, but my 2.5 year old sttn and he didn't until he did at one year old when we did our own form of training.

My LO is up to nurse 2-3 times a night. I feed him and he goes right back to bed. I dont see the harm in it. I am a working mom and so I look forward to being able to nurse and cuddle at night.

Mine's not. It stinks because last week he practically was STTN, and then starting Christmas Eve night he's decided that midnight would be a great time to wake up and scream for seemingly no reason. We feed him, change him, and he still screams. Last night we ended up letting him CIO after he was still crying after being changed and fed. Luckily he only cried for about 10 minutes. He wakes up for a 4 or 5am bottle still as well, so he's up about twice a night at this point.
Proud mom to Jeremy (10/24/08) and Gabriel (4/25/11)
Our LO isn't sleeping through the night either. She was up every hour and 45mins and that is slowing stretching out to almost three hours now. I am going to give it a little while yet before I worry about pushing STTN. Do what feels right to you. Good luck! :0)

We did CIO with DS1 at 9 months. We tried it at 7 months and we found he was too young. 9 months worked. I'm going to do that with DS2 because he's waking up far too much. However, part of the reason is he's sick.
If it's not killing you or your family to get up with baby....then why worry?!
My 8.5 month old STILL doesn't sleep through the night 1-2 times per night to eat. In my opinion, she's getting up because she NEEDS something. Whether she's hungry, or just needs reassurance...I choose to meet her needs. She'll stop waking when she's ready.

DS still wakes up every 3 hours and drinks up to 8oz of formula each time. He usually just eats and goes right back to sleep but it's still wearing on my sanity having to get up all night. I hate to let him CIO, though, if he really is that hungry at night. Not to mention his definition of CIO is screaming for 2 hours straight until Momma gives in.

My sweetheart has been up every 1-2 hours all night lately.
We're sleep training right now. Night 2 was not pretty.
