The manufacturer age is 8yo but that sounds very old to me to start with it. What age do you think is good? With supervision of course. Is 4.5 too young?

I wouldn't get it for a kid that young. It can get pretty hot, and become a burn hazard. I wouldn't wait until 8, but less than 6 or so is too young, IMO.

I personally think 4.5 is too young and that 8 years old sounds about right. I guess with supervision it would be fine in terms of safety but I think it's developed more for older kids.
I've wanted to get one for my DD who is also 4.5....but I'm waiting. I want her to be old enough to truly do it herself without supervision (or supervision that she doesn't notice...her being more independent)..until then we practice often in MY kitchen...she loves to help bake and cook. I mean, if you are going to have to help and do some of the stuff anyways, why not just make real stuff for everyone to enjoy until she's old enough.
