Pregnant after a Loss

high pulse rate in pregnancy?

I have been very sick and finally went to a minute clinic when for the second time my Dr. couldn't fit me in. I got antibiotics for my illness but while I was there she said my pulse rate was high - 115. I wasn't too concerned b/c it was SO hot in the office and I think I was slightly dehydrated.

But I have been checking my pulse and it's been between 94-107. I called my OB today to follow up and the RN said she wasn't concerned. It was probably from being sick, just keep an eye on it.

Now I am so worried I don't know if it'll ever come down! I read something that said during pregnancy it is common for pulse rate in increase. Has anyone else had this? And does anyone know what is normal in pregnancy?

  • I don't know what is normal, but I wouldn't be surprised if a pregnant woman's resting hr was higher simply because her heart is working harder to pump more blood.

  • Mine has been high on and off and my doctor was not concerned because my thyroid had been checked.  I had a few racing heart episodes one weekend and placed a call to the on-call doctor.  She said it is almost always caused by dehydration and to really push water & fluids.  She said no caffeine (which I don't drink anyway) and no chocolate (d'oh) for a while.  I felt a lot better after a day of drinking water non-stop and try not to forget my water bottle anymore.

My doctor said that even if your heart is racing, the baby is fine.  I would definitely ask about it at your next appointment though it doesn't seem to be all that uncommon.
