Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Rocking to Crawling Question

How long did it take for your LOs to go from rocking to crawling?  I'm sure it is different for each baby - just looking for personal experiences.  Nikolai is a pro at rocking now - it's his favorite thing to do and he wakes himself up at night doing it.  Love that :(

Re: Rocking to Crawling Question

  • Nora's been rocking for 3.5 months now. Everyone said she'd be crawling soon after she started rocking at 5 months, but she's not. She rolls, scoots, inchworms, leapfrogs... She's mobile in every which way. EXCEPT she can't put it all together and crawl. She's actually at the point now where she's reeeeally frustrated by it. She gets all all 4s, rocks, and then kind of throws herself forwards while yelling. It's kind of hilarious.

  • Andrew has been rocking on all fours for a little over a month, but he hasn't figured out how to move forward. Instead he flops down on his belly, lifts his head up, sticks his arms out and kicks his legs. I crack up every time.

  • DS has been rocking for a little over a month.  Today he finally pulled it together and crawled a little.  That is, he finally coordinated his arms and legs to move a couple feet without falling on his face.

I'm with you on the nighttime stuff.  The last month has sucked in terms of his waking himself up rocking on all fours.

  • DS has been army crawling for about a month. Two weeks ago he started getting up on his knees and hands and rocking, and on Sunday he crawled on all fours. Since the he only crawls for a foot maybe, and then drops back to his stomach because its much quicker. Which makes me think we'll be army crawling for a long time...

  • DS started rocking on his knees at 4 months and started full on crawling 2.5 weeks later. He got the hang of it very quickly!

I asked this same question when DS started rocking and I generally got an answer of about 2 weeks-1.5 months.
  • backwards crawl for about 2 months then rocking for a few days then was taking a few steps that was 2 weeks ago now shes full on crawling! Seems like these past few weeks she has done 10 things as soon as she  learned to crawl shes trying to pull up ahh!

Yep, Liam's been rocking since about 6 months. Sometimes he goes backwards, but now he's just interested in inching over to what he wants and pulling up on it. We're all convinced he's just going to walk and skip the whole crawling thing.

  • About the same as most of you...DD started rocking a little before 6 months, she goes backwards when she really tries (which makes her mad) and now she moves herself/rolls/inches/lunges to get where she wants to go, but hasn't gotten the coordination of moving her hands and knees together yet.

And yes, she was waking up at night and practicing the rocking about every night but that has worn off.  I don't think it'll be long now.
