...and now she has a rash!

ugh... what the hell is wrong with my DD?

recap:

thursday, Dec 9th - slept her normal 12 hours, everything was great.

friday, Dec 10th - she woke up with us already gone to NYC, so grandparents were here.  Day was fine, sleep was hell all weekend (up every few hours crying).

Sunday, Dec 12th, we're home, same awful sleep - up every hour or so

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - more of the same.  Tuesday we were at the doctor's office for a shot and they checked her ears to make sure no ear infection.  all clear.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday - sleep is now only about every 20 minutes.

Sunday - I can see a little white tooth coming through (her 3rd - the first two came through uneventfully), so I think maybe it's just teething.  Slight fever (100.2), so give a dose of tylenol to see if it helps.  She's up about every 30-45 minutes this night.

Monday - I get Hylands Teething Tablets and give her 2 before bed.  She slept in 2-3 hour stretches all night (much better than before).

Tuesday/Yesterday - Notice a small rash on her belly during bathtime.  I give her some motrin to see if that helps the pain of whatever she's feeling.  Her temp is 98.0, so no fever.   She's up every hour.  I give her 2 more teething tablets in the middle of the night, but she's still up every hour.

This morning - The rash has spread to her face/neck, arms, legs, back.  It's really small and you don't really notice it unless I point it out to you.

She's got a doctor's appointment for tomorrow (they couldn't fit her in today with her regular doc and I want to see him).

Anyone have a guess?  The rash makes me jump to Roseola, but she never had a really high fever (100.2 was the highest I ever read).  What else can cause a rash?  Laundry detergent hasn't changed, so that's not it.  No new foods this week either.  She's definitely more fussy this week and every symptom (until the rash) was pointing to teething, especially since I can see that little guy on the bottom - but it's been 13 days!

Re: ...and now she has a rash!

  • I thought one of the reasons Hylands had been recalled was because the active ingredients could cause reactions in some kids. Maybe that's what the rash is? Also, if she is teething, is she wearing a bib to catch drool? I noticed a rash on Sparky's neck last night and I think it is because he wore the same bib all day and it was wet with drool. After a bath and a good drying off, no more rash as of this morning.

I can't help with the no sleeping and fussiness, though. We are dealing with that as well.

  • There's about a bajillion viruses that cause rashes. Honestly - it's probably just a virus. If the rash doesn't bother her, she's probably fine.  My oldest has had several random virus related rashes and it's never been an issue. And usually the rash shows up when the virus is over.  The rash will like subside in a few days.
  • My first thought is that maybe it's a reaction to the teething tablets. :( I hope her sleep improves soon!!

This is good to know... I've been imagining just a virus too, but wasn't sure if all the other symptoms pointed that direction or if it had been too long (13 days) and it should have worked itself out by now.  It'd be great if this was the tail end of whatever this is.  We all need some sleep around here and I don't want any of us sick for Christmas!
