Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Popping over from 3-6 for a Nutramigen Question!

We are going to be making the switch from Nutramigen to something else next week, since DH and I are both on vacation.

If anyone has made the switch, what formula did you switch to? What worked for your LO and didn't work for your LO?

TIA!

  • The only thing that's worked for her is an organic formula called "Baby's Only". We use the Lactose-Free although there is also a soy and a dairy version.

  • We use Alimentum. Our pedi gave us two containers of Nutramigen because she didnt' have any Alimentum samples at our last appt (they give us freebies when we have well check-ups). We hate the Nutramigen. It smells worse than Alimentum, if thats even possible, and its really watery. I'd try Alimentum if you have to stay on a MSPI formula!

  • No, we want to try a regular formula to see if her digestive system is mature yet. I'm terrified, but I need to know if I will be poor for the rest of my life! That sounded terrible, but you know what I mean.

Alimentum is more expensive than the Nutramigen and my insurance doesn't pay for it...shocker.

I was told that Good Start Gentle might be the way to go, but like I said...terrified.

  • My son was on Alimentum for the first 6 months and we just did the switch to Similac Sensitve. He did great! We did it cold turkey! How old is your little one? They say to wait until 6 months to switch. Good luck! It was like a pay raise when we switched!!

  • I just recently posted the same question! We tried switching over the weekend and it was a giant fail. DD became extremely constipated and then had major diarrhea. I was trying to switch to gentleease. :( Maybe I will try again in another month. We tried mixing the bottles for a couple of days, then I gave her one bottle of the gentleease. She wouldn't drink it.

  • My Daughter has been on Nutramigen since she was 3 months old (she is 8 months old today).  My Pedi strongly advises us to keep her on the Nutramigen until she is 12 months old and then we would try whole milk.

I've heard of a # of people trying to make the switch and they end up regretting it.  I even thought about it myself, however she will stay with the Nutramigen.

  • Ditto pp, I've considered switching since DS is now 6 months old.  However, I decided to just suck it up until we can try cow's milk when he turns 1.  I don't want to mess with his stomach since he does so well on Nutramigen.  We also just started solids today so I don't want to hit him with a double whammy.

  • I switched her to Similac Sensitive too and she loves it! Does great for her!
