At what temperature should you call the pediatrician about a fever...? DS is a few
months shy of four and has a 101-102 temp. This is the first time he's ever had a "real" fever. Should I try a cool bath first...?
What are his other symptoms? We don't call for just fever until 105. If you think it might be strep or an ear infection, then take him in. Otherwise, just ride it out. Dress him lightly and try lukewarm (not cold) baths. Tylenol or Motrin (Motrin works best for ds) if he seems uncomfortable. A fever itself isn't dangerous, it's just the body fighting off a virus or infection.

Ditto this. Our pediatrician recommends alternating Tylenol and Motrin too. I also agree that a 101-102 temp in itself is not alarming. We would call our pediatrician if the temp was 104 or above and would not respond to over the counter meds.
Thanks ladies. He's already on mess for an eat infection, but he just feels so hot to the touch and he's extremely lethargic. He's still taking fluids, but won't eat. I'm giving him Tylenol (I'm out of Motrin right now). I guess I'll just keep an eye on it for now.
At about 102ish range, dd won't eat and she too is lethargic. That sounds pretty normal to me. Keep giving him fluids, and I agree about the switching back and forth with the tylenol and motrin. I also like to put a wet wash cloth on the forehead and back of the neck.
How long has he been on the meds for the ear infection? If it has been longer than a day, that would concern me. Just my opinion, but it never hurts to call especially if you are concerned.

With a fever of 101 or 102 you might want to flush the fever out. Heres a link https://www.livestrong.com/article/202344-how-to-alternate-tylenol-motrin-in-children/. We have done this when DD has been in the 102-103 range. Sending "WELL" thoughts!
