  • I'm pretty sure you can just use the same old stuff.  If I am wrong then I am in big trouble!

  • Bubble & Bee.. they have natural deodorant that actually seems to work.

I don't wear makeup but Aubrey Organics and another site called 100%pure- they both have makeup otions.

Toothpaste... not too sure, but Dessert Essence brand makes natural toothpastes

  • I was never told to use anything different. So I would assume your regular shizz is ok.

  • My RE is only concerned about nail polish. He said I can only use organic nail polish, and even then I can't use it until 12 weeks - and even THEN I have to do it outside. Absolutely no nail salons. I think he underestimates how awesome pedicures are.

  • I haven't changed anything....  I use cover girl makeup, crest toothpaste and clinical strength secret brand deodorant. I do not have any plans to change these items.

  • I'm using the same makeup and deoderant.... but I did stop using an Oil of Olay anti ageing cream because it has retin A in it. I also stopped my normal face washes that had tons of chemicals...

I've been using all Origins products and have been happy so far :)

  • You prob. really don't need to change anything at all as the other ladies are saying.. I just figure you were looking into organic/natural products just to make sure there's no funky preservatives, toxins etc. in your cosmetics...  this site rates many different products https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ in case you are ever wondering about what you are currently using :)

Exactly!  This is my first pregnancy and I just want to make sure I do things right =) Thanks a lot!

  • Belli has products that are safe to use during pregnancy. I use their face wash.   Other than that, I?m not using any anti-aging creams or serums, any self tanners, or cellulite products. I?m also staying away from nail polishes and hair color. Over all, I?m just trying to limit the products I?m using and trying to use more natural body and hair products (like Burt?s Bees).
  • Ps... Earth Momma Angel Baby has a whole Pregnancy line. Organic and fairly priced. The smells are pleasing to queasy tummies too :)

California Baby also has great products, they have some things for expectant mommas too. This company's rating on Skin Deep in very low comparing to most, most products are rated at Zero which is amazing!

  • You don't have to change your regular stuff.

  • BareMinerals makeup rocks!  As for deodorant, its hard to find something natural/organic/safe that actually works but the one I've been able to use is Kiss My Face Sport - it doesn't smell as good as the non-natural but it does the trick and is safe for pregnancy.  Burt's Bees has shampoos, conditioners, body-wash, and really good face cleansing towelettes and they sell their products (as well as some other natural/organic/safe products like Alba etc) at Walmart now!

Say whaaat? I got my nails done my whole pregnancy last time, and pedis on the regular. That seems a tad extreme.

  • The concern with deodorant is aluminum - most deodorants have something like 20% aluminum, which is absorbed through the skin and not recommended during pregnancy. I switched to Tom's, it's aluminum free (their scents are really nice - I'm using fresh apricotSmile). I already use Tom's toothpaste, but unless you swallow your toothpaste, I wouldn't be too worried about switching.

And, the biggest concern with manicures/pedicures is the risk for bacterial infection if you get a small nick at the salon. Some sources say salons are fine, just don't put your feet in the tub because it's bacteria-laden. There is no medical report that says nail polish in and of itself has any effects on pregnancy, so polish away. If you're nervous, try natural-based polishes, or the new Sally Hansen polish stickers (they're really cute and don't chip easily!)

Before I got pregnant I changed to better products, the type of stuff I don't mind if it soaks into my skin.  I didn't feel comfortable with all sorts of chemicals all over my entire body and started thinking about the products I use and lather daily - my hair, face, lotions, etc.   I started with Toms of Maine and 100% pure products and didn't have to go any further.  I think 100% pure has a website.  I love their stuff for make up and body lotions, they smell so yummy and aren't full of all sorts of crap.  You can always take a stroll down Whole Foods aisles too if you have one.  You can also look into products that many stores like Target, Walgreens, and even Wal-Mart carry: Burt's Bees, & Say Yes to Carrots.  I also love the brand LUSH.

  • I'm just a lurker, but had to pipe in since I'm researching the same things.  I moved to vegan makeup a while back (Tarte is a good one).  I use Dermalogica for skin care and love Alba for body lotion.  Here is a link that talks about some stuff you want to avoid, although the slant is specific to Dermalogica products.  https://www.pure-beauty.co.uk/docs/37/pregnancy_advice/
  • I have VERY sensitive skin and only use natural makeup and body products to begin with so, here's what works for me:

Dr. Hauschka - if i had unlimited funds this would seriously be the only brand of anything I use, but it is PRICEY

    Aveda

    Burt's Bees

Anne Marie Borlind (I've only used the moisturizer, but I really like it in winter; my skin is super dry but it's not greasy) - I get it at Whole Foods

Whole Foods "Everyday Shea" body wash, shampoo and conditioner - i like the lavender scent. It's $10 for a 32 oz bottle, free of chemicals, fair trade and not tested on animals.

[edit] oh and also Tom's of Maine deoderant and toothpaste.

  • Save your money and keep using the same stuff. As long as you're not putting mercury on your eyelids, your baby will be fine.

  • My name is Dr Vik Sachar. I am a double board certified Maternal Fetal Medicine (High Risk Pregnancy) & Ob/Gyn Physician. I have created a product that will benefit all pregnant women, and all of your readers, the world's first safe, non-toxic cosmetics for pregnancy. We can be found at www(dot)VSacharMD(dot)com

You may be aware that babies are born with over 200+ toxins in their blood! These toxins get passed to the baby from maternal exposure to air pollution, pesticides (food we eat), and even makeup (through skin!). I wanted to give all pregnant women a safe alternative for their pregnancy. Substances such as Lake Dyes, Lead, Coal tar, bismuth chloride... are found in so many products and are known to cause acne, skin irritation, and are toxic to both the mother and the baby. Lead has been found in 400 different lipsticks in the USA by the FDA! Lead is a known neurotoxin, and is associated with autism and other learning disabilities in children. These toxins accumulate in the baby over time through bioaccumulation and are associated with adult diseases such as breast cancer, diabetes, infertility, obesity, and many more.

I started this company to give pregnant women a safe alternative for their cosmetic needs. You can find makeup tips, pregnancy medical advice, and information about our products compared to others at www(dot)VSacharMD(dot)com

    Sincerely
    V.Sachar MD
