f/u tater tot casserole?

I've seen this brought up a few times, but I don't know that I've seen the recipe and now I know there are others who are dying for it as well!

Fess up!

Re: f/u tater tot casserole?

  • OMG i made the best tatertot casserole the toher day!

ok. Groud meat, cook it up, put in a packet of brown gravey mix. Add in a can of cream of mush soup and 1/2 a can or so of milk. I threw in a drained can of corn.

Put the tatertots on the bottom of a 13 x 9 pan and pour the crap on top and cook at 425 for 25 min or so. Oh and i put cheddar cheese just on top.

  • That does sound good!  Except the beef part...  My nana has the most awesome-ist recipe!

  • I make it all the time!  It's my DH's favorite recipe and it's so simple.

I just brown 1 lb ground beef and mix it with one can of cream of mushroom soup.  Put in a casserole dish and then layer with shredded cheddar cheese and tater tots.  Bake at 400 until the tots are crispy.  Some people add a layer of veggies like mixed or green beans before the cheese layer.

  • Very simple. ?Just brown a lb of hamburger meat and mix the meat with a can of cream of mushroom soup and a bag of tator tots. ?I put the mixture in a casserole dish, top with cheddar cheese, and then put it in the oven at 350 for 25-30 minutes.
  • oh i used ground turkey. I am trying to cut back on the grocery bill and ground turkey is a 1.20 a pound vs hamburger at 3 something. so i use it in casseroles and stuff.

Rease, have you ever thought of releasing a cook book? I love how descriptive and clear you are when you write recipes ;)

  • if you put the tots on the bottom, it all ususally bakes together and the tots mash down.  It's really yummy that way.  IF you put the tots on the top, then you end up with crispy, cheesy tots, which is also good.  So it's a personal preference.

My recipe is the same as Rease's more or less, but I alternate green beans and corn when I make it.  (I have one allergic to green beans, and one who despises corn.)

  • I'm allergic to beef.  Has anyone tried this with a different meat?  I think I'll have to try it with some ground turkey...
  • I am from MN, so we call it tater tot hot dish here, but here is my recipe:

Brown 1 lb ground beef with onion (if you like onion)

Add frozen corn, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 can cream of celery soup

    Pour mixture into cake pan

Top with a bag of tator tots

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until tater tots are browned.

Enjoy, it is a favorite at our house.

I was thinking ground turkey would be more healthy and taste just as good!?

  • I make a hashbrown casserole with ham. Not quite tater tots, but close.?

it's 32 oz of frozen hashbrowns, 8 oz cut up ham, 2 cans of cream of chicken, 8 oz sour cream, a medium onion, 8 oz chedder cheese, and you top it with corn flakes all crushed up with a couple of tablespoons of melted butter bake at 350 for about an hour....it's sooo good and makes a good breakfast, or dinner!?

  • I press my ground beef into the pan raw (i don't brown it first), then I put one or two cans of cream of mushroom over that, then the tator tots

I can't remember what temp I put the oven on though, I'm no help, lol

  • I like to put california mixed veggies in mine.

1 lb ground turkey (I use turkey and it tastes great)

    1 bag tator tots

    1 can cheese soup

1 can cream of mushroom soup

    1 bag california blend veggies

    1 bag cheddar cheese

Cook meat.  Add both soups and veggies; mix.  Pour on the bottom of a 9X13 pan.  Top with tator tots and cheddar cheese.  Bake at 400 for 1 hour.  Mmmmm...so good.

  • We use ground turkey all the time.  I also substitute Cream of Mushroom soup with Cream of Chicken or Cream of *anything* soups (I use 2 cans).  There's a pepperjack cheese soup that's tasty too.  And grated cheese on top is a must.  Feel free to add garlic powder and/or onion powder as you see fit.

    Mmmmm
