I finished DS's gift shopping weeks ago. I just got him some stuff that I figured he would like. Didn't realize he has his own ideas of what he'd like, but in the past week and a half, he's sat on Santa's lap two times, and both times he's asked for a "Horsey".
I pressed him at dinner after the first time, for what kind of horsey he wants, and he wagged his finger in my face and said, "NOT a rocking horse. A REAL horse". After a discussion about how a real horse probably wouldn't fit in our house (to which he replied by spreading his arms out in the middle of the dining room, "Yes it will, see? It will fit"), and then how horses live in pastures and barns, which we don't have and don't have room in our yard for, he went to see another Santa yesterday and again asked for a horsey.
And his Christmas list that he made as school says: Horsey, snowman and crocodile, plus he told yesterday's Santa that he wants a choo choo train. With a track. He has several trains with wooden tracks that he rarely plays with. He told me he wants a BROWN one. Uh.... ok?
Needless to say, of all the stuff I've already gotten him, none of the above are included. DH doesn't seem to care, but I kind of feel like if we're going to promote the Santa idea, shouldn't Santa come through with something the kid actually WANTS and specifically asks for?
So my (long-winded) question is: any ideas on how to give him a horse without actually giving him a real horse? (He does already have a very nice wooden rocking horse).
Re: More gift help... please
This seems kinda pricey, but what if you got something similar. Santa could leave a note explaining that a real horse wouldn't fit in his sleigh and needs a really big barn to live in, so he brought him this instead.
I agree with you, though. If you're going to promote Santa he should come through with something he's been asking for.
I'd give him a horsey that's on a stick (you know what I'm talking about, don't you?). He can ride it and some of them even whinney. WIN!
And as for the brown train, hmmm, maybe get him one of the Thomas trains from Kohl's or something to put in his stocking?
I did the same thing w/ my shopping and now DD is asking for all kinds of crazy stuff from Santa - like a doll house and lots of barbies - out of nowhere!
So I have basically started planting ideas in her head that are what we actually got her. "You know how X has those fairy wings that you always play with - wouldn't it be great if Santa brought you a pair of your OWN?" or "wouldn't it be neat to have your own art easel with paints and markers and chalk?"
B/c honestly, I don't want to get her a doll house (has one) or barbies (for many other reasons) and she is otherwise asking for ridiculous stuff like a real cat...
BTW - how is the labor/lack of labor going - any progress?
How about taking him to a place where he can ride horses or little ponys. So the gift could be like the stick horse or something with a note from Santa that since a horse doesn't not fit in a house gets a special trip to ride a real horse?
I was going to suggest something like this too. Although I don't know where a place like that might be. Lots of help I know
All great ideas, thanks, y'all! I'm actually leaning toward Nessia's suggestion, via Joyco's hobby horse idea... Kiddie Acres has pony rides, right? We haven't been there yet but I've been wanting to take him so maybe we'll do that.
Meh. We actually went to the hospital Friday night but got sent home, still at 2cm (which is what I was 2 days prior at my appt). Soooo, apparently all these contractions I'm having, although stronger and getting stronger still, are not making any progress with my cervix. I was basically told that if I'm not doubled over in pain every 2-3min for 60-90 seconds, not to come back! So I've kept a low profile and stayed busy all weekend to keep my mind off of it. I have another appt on Wednesday morning, so I'm curious if I'll have progressed any more by then. And dr has already told me he's going to strip the membranes at that appt, so we'll see what happens after that.
When 3 Became 4
Yep, they do!
