Does Ruby age well?

I was having a discussion with my brother about the name Ruby and he was saying he can picture a little girl and an old lady, but nothing in between.  What are your thoughts? I know the name is generally well liked on the board.

  • I think your Brother is right on.  I can't imagine it on a 20, 30 or 40 year old.

  • I think it's a great name for woman of all ages. Kind of sophisticated in a sweet, elegant, feminine way.
  • My 23 month old is named Ruby :)  I also know a 30-something lady at work named Ruby as well as an old lady!  I think it ages fine.

    I agree.  Sorry.

  • I think it's hard to imagine on someone our age because it was not as popular with our generation.  It is becoming more popular now so in 20 years there should be enough 20 year old Rubys for it to be "normal".

I personally think it's a classic name that would work well for any age.

  • I think it's a great name for someone of any age.  I'd rather my name be Ruby than my actual name (and I'm 21).

agreed.  Hard to imagine: "all rise for the honorable judge Ruby ___."  Or hi I'm Dr. Ruby _____.

However, I love it, and agree with the posts about it being more popular now, so that in 30 years it'll be easier to imagine.

  • I agree with your brother. I can see an old woman with this name but not much else.  Can't say that I care for that name.
  • I follows this blog. The writer's name is Ruby. I think she's adorable and it definitely helps me to think of a young woman named Ruby.
