What do you think of Ona as a nickname for Ramona. Mona sounds too much like an old lady. I like that Ona is easy to pronounce and spell. I like the idea of her learning to write it :-)
Ona sounds odd to me. Sounds too close to "Oma" which means "grandma" in Dutch. I think Mona or Romy are much prettier.
There's really only so much you can do to control what nickname your child decides to use/their friends use for them. If you don't like some of the possible nicknames, it might be best to reconsider the name you've chosen... unless you want to be constantly correcting people when they call your child a nickname you don't like.
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

I like Mona a lot better, and don't think it sounds too old fashioned at all. Ona sounds made up.

Even though "Ona" is right there tacked onto the end of "Ramona" it strikes me as a separate name choice altogether. I can picture her having to explain to everyone that her actual name is Ramona every single time someone remarks to her, "Ona! That's such an interesting name!"

That's so funny because Fiona is really high on my list for next time around but I wouldn't use it because it rhymes with Ramona.
I love Ramona and prefer the nn Mona or Moni.
Ona is okay, but nms. I don't think adding the M is going to be that much more of a spelling challenge.
