Dryer Balls? Difference between wool and plastic?
Since diving into this CD fad my entire laundry routine has taken a 360. I?m now making my own laundry detergent and using some vinegar as fabric softener (my washer has never smelled better btw). Now, I?m trying to wean my DH off dryer sheets (down to a half a sheet used twice). I?ve done some research with mixed reviews. So, I purchased a few plastic dryer balls from Wal-mart and I?ve had some great success. Then the other day I read somewhere that plastic dryer balls should not be used. What?s the deal?
(My DS is due to arrive any day and I?m using BG detergent to launder my CD?s)
Re: Dryer Balls? Difference between wool and plastic?
It is said that the plastic dryer balls (PVC) can release chemicals when heated. Plus, wool is environmentally friendly, PVC isn't.
We have wool dryer balls and I LOVE them. I got scented ones (at DH's request) and they really do leave our clothes smelly yummy too.
Can you get wool dryer balls at Walmart also? How long do they usually last?
Ditto PP. The plastic ones are also super loud in your dryer.
I've made my own wool ones and bought some from Etsy. I've been using the same ones for about 18 months. A couple have fallen apart but the majority are still going strong.

love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
Some plastic dryer balls contains PVC which can be toxic.
Wool is easy to make yourself, and relatively cheap if you buy. I'm looking into making some with a knitted/crocheted cover so they don't unravel
Where did you get your scented ones?
jackbenatural.com has them.
Thank you!
(I'm pretty sure I remember Woolzies saying you can use their balls even if you have a wool allergy, though. Because the wool doesn't come OFF. Double-check that before deciding to use them, obviously, but I seem to remember reading that in their FAQ's.)
