schedule for 3-4 weekers

My b/g twins are 3.5 weeks old now.  We were on a three hour feeding schedule, but not sure when "awake" activity time fits in.  When the babies wake up, they are screaming for food.  After they eat, they are usually sleepy.  Even if one of them is more awake, the other is usually sleepy.  And if we try to do an activity with them, like tummy time or just walking them around the house, then they have trouble napping before the next feeding.  So what were your schedules with 3-4 weekers like?

Re: schedule for 3-4 weekers

  • I had mine just about the same time you did-and I would say for the first month we did mostly sleeping.  They barely opened their eyes for the first two weeks, and we would try the play mat just for 10 minutes if we could.  Sometimes they were successful, sometimes not.  It's only been the past 2 weeks that we can get more of an activity in.

  • Since they're just now getting to 40w, I wouldn't bother with activities yet. Ours just slept, pooped, ate, repeat until about 42w gestational.
  • Mine are about the same age as yours. Their EDD was 5 days ago. For the past week or so, they have been more awake and I've been wondering what exactly I'm supposed to be doing with them. I actually asked yesterday but only got like one response. So far they seem to be on different schedules which is kind of a pain. They will wake up hungry so I'll feed them, then A stays awake a lot in the morning and afternoon after a feeding but R falls back asleep. They switch for the evening/ nighttime. When they are awake, I try to do tummy time, signing, showing toys, going on the play mat, etc. but it's not usually terribly successful since one of them is usually sleepy.

  • Same here!  One of my babies always seems to be more awake and the other is sleepy.  But it changes from day to day.  I'm trying to learn their cues for when they are hungry or sleepy, but honestly, they are not making it easy!  For the most part, I think they are still really sleepy and when they are awake and I try to do an activity with them, like tummy time or dancing with them and showing them things around the house, they have trouble falling asleep even if they are tired.  So maybe they are getting over-stimulated?  I don't know. Heh, these babies are so confusing.  Everyone says to follow your instincts, but I've got none and the babies don't seem to know what they want either.  I hope it gets easier to figure them out as they get a little older.

Good idea, teaching them signing!  I really should start doing that.
