Gift for GP's unsanitary and messy house

My parents are going through a hard time, and the cleanliness of their home is suffering.  They really don't keep the neatest home to begin with.

Anyway, I would like to buy them a gift they can use for DS.  What do you think I should buy?

Baby safe gated play yard?  DS is not yet crawling, but when he does.....!!

FP Infant to Todder Rocker?  It will keep DS in one place, off the icky floor, and he loves the one at home.

I'm buying ILs foam mats for their hard, uncarpeted floors.  I considered these for my parents to put over their carpet, but they will just leave them on the floor with the cat, defeating the purpose.

What should I buy?

  • I like the idea of the foam mat! I bought one of those foam mats (with the pieces that snap together) this past weekend for our playroom and I love it!

yea...I'd maybe do a once-a-month cleaning service...or even a one time deep clean for them.  Other options I would go with would be an excersaucer so he's up off the floor, the infant-to-toddler rocker, or maybe a pack'n'play that you can put him in with his toys when you're there?

I like that idea. But would they feel offended? If they'd be ok with it I would totally do it!

  • Our floors are freezing, and we have DD in a playpen with a raised floor (when she's older and pulling up we can lower it to just above floor level) so it's comfortable to get her out without having to bend down too far and she's up off of our floor in a contained, clean area where she can play to her heart's content.

  • a pnp would probably be best so that he is enclosed, its his own area, his toys are off the ground, etc....

have you considered talking to your parents about the cleanliness of the house & your concerns with your LO being there?
