Parenting after a Loss

I hate to ask this...

Usually I'm not a fan of "should I call the pedi" posts? My theory is always trust your gut and it never hurts to call.

But here it goes... DS has had a cold for 3 weeks now. At the end of week one it started getting better, but I think he caught it again from me and it's only been getting worse since.

I took him to the pedi the day before it hit because I could tell he wasn't feeling good and I thought he might have an ear infection. (Ears were good.) He isn't running a fever, but he's just been miserable. I've been giving him Tylenol, Motrin, and ear-numbng drops which help for a little while, but he still wakes up screaming.

I know a virus just has to run it's course, but 3 weeks is a long time. I'm not sure what to do. I just wish he'd feel better already.

  • With no fever and a cold, there isn't much a doctor can do. B had a cold for 4+ weeks. She kept almost getting rid of it then catching it again. She was all stuffed up and clogged and really unhappy. There just wasn't anything more I could do for her.

Are you running a humidifier in his room?

It sucks to see them sick when there isn't anything we can do for them.

  • DD is just now getting over her 3 week cold.  She was miserable for a while, but she had no fever and just a runny/congested nose.  I kept saying that I was going to take her to the pedi, but my DH who's a paramedic said there wasn't anything they could do...unless her runny nose turned green/yellow.

Hope the little man is better soon!!!

Sorry to jump in late!  But this is what I was thinking.  You can't do anything for a virus, but sometimes bacteria take advantage of the situation & move in on top of a viral infection.  If there's colored snot/mucus, I would definitely call because he may need antibiotics at that point.

Poor little guy...hope he feels better ASAP!!!
