Baby Names

Big M little Organ

So it?s already been decided if and when we ever have a boy it will be Morgan, Morgan James actually. However DH is always so concerned about how the name could be made fun of. With Morgan he thinks they will call him Big M little Organ. Don?t even get me started on the whole Feicity = falatio debate.

Does any one else think of possible nick names when thinking of names?

Re: Big M little Organ

  • I know several Morgans and I've never heard of this.  Kids come up with all kinds of horrible nicknames and you're never going to be able to predict them all.
  • I...don't get it... Is that some sort of penis reference?

I'd be more concerned that it's more commonly used for girls (but not that concerned anyway, it's a good name).

    This is my thought exactly.
  • Never heard of or thought of this before. And no matter what you name a kid they're going to have people nn them. Even if their name isn't nicknameable, kids in school WILL come up with something. It's inevitable.

I agree, he's way over thinking it.

I've only known girls with this name IRL, though I do prefer it on a boy.

My sister is named Morgan and the only, I guess, teasing she got from it was people referring to her as the Morgue. I don't think it ever bothered her.

  • Seriously, this is bugging me... Can someone explain the significance of "Big M, little organ"?
  • It seriously took me a minute to figure Big M little Organ out.  He's been ridiculous.

  • Well the NN that you DH came up with wont start until your son is like 10+ and by then hopefully your son can handle that problem himself.  I know when prego w/ my first I LOVED the name Jack and my DH didn't want ppl calling him Jack Off, Jack A**, etc.  So I decided to drop the Jack name and we ending up having a little girl anyway.  I think Morgan is a great name. • My name is Morgan...in high school on occasion they called me "Morgasm"...that is really the only one I can remember...and I think I turned out okay in spite of it. Kids are cruel there is no way to pick a name that isn't going to be made into a pun.

  • As sad as it is I can not give DH the credit lol. We heard it on a movie. Beverly Hillbillies maybe. I don?t know but it really stuck with him, but like I said he is worried about all NN but that is juts the way of life I guess.
  • The thing I would be the most worried about is the gender. Morgan is used more for girls these days, so your sons kindergarten teacher would be calling his name on the first day of school waiting for a girl to raise her hand. He will most likely be one of 4 or 5 Morgans in his grade, and will more then likely be the only boy. I could see that being a potential problem starting pretty young when all the Michaels and Andrews realize your son has the same name as some of the girls.

I would be more worried about that type of teasing rather then nicknames etc, IMO.

  • The only time I have ever heard Big M, little organ was in the Beverly Hillbillies movie - that's a pretty obscure reference.  Kids will find something to make fun of, I don't think there's any way to avoid it.  Whether it's your son's name or something else about him, bullies will be bullies.

  • My DH has the same concerns about Jack so I dropped it as well.  I was in love with it but I don't want to make it too easy for kids to make fun of our son.

We are concerned about teasing, especially regarding the boy's name.  A great site is parents connect.  You can look up at name and click "considering this name" and it will tell you what people who have that name think about it and if they got bullied/teased, what they were called.  Good luck!

  • HaHa I would NEVER think of Big M little Organ! I cant think why someone would make fun of Morgan..and if they do then they would find something in any name. I love Margan James

In case it will reassure him, I really doubt your future DS classmates are going to be big Beverly Hillbillies fans....

And, to be honest, if the kids DO happen to come up with that nickname, I would actually be kind of impressed....it took me a minute to get it.

  • I love Morgan for a boy.  Morgan James is great!

I had never heard big M little organ before coming on this board.  I think about possibly teasing, but frankly, children will pick on someone they don't like for a multitude of reasons.  If not their name, their hair color, body shape/size or skill level. I wouldn't over think it too much.

  • I am wondering why this name is already decided if your husband obviously doesn't like it? Why don't you consider another name that he wouldn't have this objection to?

    Big M ? little organ

    Spells Morgan

The "BigM" being, well, just that they have a capital "big" M.

Little organ (referring to "Morgan's" penis) because the "organ" part is little/lowercase. Little penis.

... the stupid things people come up with to try and be funny.

Well then they should just spell it mORGAN, and there won't be any problems.Stick out tongueWink

  • I went to HS with a Morgan. People called her Morgasm, Morganism, Mork...

She survived, although I'm not sure she appreciated the nns.

  • I would have NEVER thought of this. I think that Morgan James is a great name!

Does anyone remember that 80's-90's SNL skit where the couple is trying to name their  baby & the husband keeps shoot things down because it will get made fun of by the kid's future classmates?  Then there's a delivery guy at the door with a package for "Mr. Asswipe" and the guy freaks out because "It's pronounced Ah-sweep-A!!!!!".
