9 1/2 month old suddenly clingy!!

My daughter recently started screaming when I try to put her down for naps and at bedtime. She will only stay calm and asleep if i nurse her too sleep and then stay in bed with her! She's also suddenly become very clingy. It's been going on for about a week now and it's really frustrating. She has no teeth, and is in good health. Has anyone experienced something like this before?

Thanks :)

  • yup its separation anxiety. very normal and common from 9-12 months. all you can do is assure her verbally and through hugs etc that you are right there and not leaving forever. during naps, going in to pat her on the back etc if she is crying. leaving the room, going back in if necessary etc until she falls asleep. sometimes letting them cry for a few minutes is enough for them to calm themselves down. I dont let my LO go more then 4 minutes and that is only when nothing else is calming him. Also if your lO has a lovey like a blanket or animal sometimes that helps.

  • The only time my daughter is quiet w/o me is when she plays my iPhone or iPad. She knows how to start the kids song application and press the big button to exit. When she realize I'm not next to her, she cries and calls mama mama and it takes some time to calm her down. I think this is very typical seperation anxiety when babies reach this age.
