spelling of Kiersten

In my girl name poll earlier more than one person didn't like the spelling of Kiersten.  I kind of agree, but how would you spell this name if you wanted it to be pronounced "Keerstin"?  I've seen Kirsten, but I would think that would be pronounced "Kerr-stin". Either way, I'm sure it would be mistaken with Kristen all the time.

It's one of my least favorite on our list anyhow and will probably be cut, but I'm just curious!

Re: spelling of Kiersten

  • Spell it Kiersten. My cousin is Kirsten (Kur-stin). Totally different name.

  • I think you spelled it correctly.

    I'm Kristin (kris-tin literally - ha)

Then there is Kirsten (which is kur-stin like you said)

Then there is Kiersten (which is keer-stin)

  • Kersten.  I knew a girl who spelled it this way and pronounced it as you want it pronounced.

    The "i" just seems superfulous.

I'm curious how a long 'e' comes out of that spelling. That definitely looks like the beginning would be pronounced kerr/kur, not keer (long 'e').

  • I think your spelling is correct. It is the German spelling on babynames.com. Spelling it Kirsten is Scandinavian. Kersten is not on the site at all.
  • I agree with the others- Kiersten makes the most sense to me too.

Kiersten is how I would spell "keer-sten".  If it was Kirsten or Kersten for that matter I'd say Kur-sten

  • I would pronounce it Keerstin if it was spelled Kirsten but it's because I am Scandinavian and I used to BEG my mother to let me change my name to Kirsten when I was little because of the American Girl doll. But I think you'd get more correct pronounciations with Kiersten. Either way, I really like it.

This. And Kersten just looks wrong to me. I've always seen it as Kiersten.

I have never seen Kiersten before.  I have only seen Kirsten, and would pronounce it "Keersten".  I see what you mean though, I wouldn't want it to be pronounced "Kursten".  Ick!

  • I agree. Kiersten is pronounced Keer-sten and Kirsten is pronounced Kur-sten, so spell them as such.

I really like both, but I definitely know people who can't tell the difference between Kristen/Kirsten/Kierstin/Kristine. I had a classmate named Christine who was called "Kristen" every time roll call happened.  Confused But I'm not sure how many people with the above names are bothered by that.

  • Kirsten can be pronounced KER-Sten, but Kiersten just looks weird, so it'll be confusing either way. But spell it Kiersten to cut down on confusion.

  • I know a Kierstan.
  • I've seen it always spelled Kierstin, so really a minor difference from your spelling. And my sister is a Kristin instead of a Kristen so maybe the "i" versus "e" is a regional thing anyway.
