Fertility specialist question

Newbie here hoping someone can help me out.  I am being referred to a fertility specialist and my doctor has given me some recs but I wanted to see if any of you have had experience with or have heard anything about local fertility specialists.  My sister had success with Dr. Chin but he is so far away from where I live.  It seems that Dr. Awadalla is highly reviewed and recommended.  My doctor also suggested    Krystene DiPaola with UC Physicians but she has only been practicing for a year.  Both are within my insurance plan.  Any info on either?

Thanks and I apologize if this has been discussed before.  I tried to search but it didn?t work.

Re: Fertility specialist question

  • I saw Dr. A and Dr. S at IRH.  I loved them both and was successful within a few short months of going to see them.
  • I suggest Drs Awadalla and Schreiber. They come highly recommended from the ladies on this board. They are nothing short of amazing!

  • I'm seeing Dr DiPaola and she is freaking amazing. She takes your insurance coverage into consideration before running tests and is very thorough. She takes a lot of time too getting to know you as a patient and I just want to hug her each time I see her.

  • I am going to chime in with Dr. Schieber and Dr. Awadalla! Love them!

I have my girls because of them and currently cycling with the for number 3.

I believe they have the best stats in the area, I don't think I am making that up, I am sure I read it somewhere. They also have written their own book:)

  •      Dr Chin all the way here!  I live 1 hour drive away, but I loved his hours and I NEVER waited in the waiting room. His office opens at 7:30 am.  Dr Chin has had me come in on a sunday more than once when the office is closed, just to check progress of my cycle.  He also does acupuncture on all of his patients for treatments at no charge to you.

I was not impressed by Dr "A". He is very nice, but waits too long to look for the problem.  He started 2 of my friends on meds for several cycles before even looking into their problem.  One of them had to pay out of pocket for alot of the treatments/meds and after several failed cycles he agreed to an HSG and further testing and found the root of her problems.  She wasted several hundred dollars because he told her " That is not our protocol".  My other friend only has 1 fal-tube and 1 week after a positive pregnancy test was having lower abd pain.  He told her multiple times over a week "it is implantation" without checking by ultrasound to make sure.  Pain kept gettng worse and she went to emergency room.  She had a tubal pregnancy and pregnancy was too far along to save her only working tube.  She ended up having 4 IVF procedures $$$$$$ to have her son and I totally blame Dr. "A".

Dr Chin test everything before he starts treatments.  Even after I had my son with his help and went back for TTC #2, Dr. Chin repeated all the tests.  I am so glad he did.  He found mucous plugging up one of my tubes that wasn't there before I had my son.  Dr Chin and his staff are wonderful.  He checks via ultrasound before every cycle to verify you are not pregnant before starting you on hormones and several times during cycle to make sure you don't have 6 kids at once.  After you have a positive pregnancy test, he checks by ultrasound THAT WEEK to make sure the baby is where it is suppose to be and all looks well.  He follows you weekly after that including repeat ultrasounds until end of first trimester.

  • I went to dr. A and have nothing but good things to say about him!! I am 35 weeks pregnant thanks to him. Everyone at IRH is soooo nice!! You'll be in good hands with any of the RE's there-Awadalla, Scheiber, or Burwinkle. Good luck!

  • I see Dr.DiPaola on occasion when my dr is out of the office. I go to UC fertility, and LOVE Dr.Steven Lindheim. He is probably on your insurance if Dr. DiPiaola is. I've referred many people to him as he is really personable, and eases your worries. He is also a perfectionist, and you can really trust him with his work..he has been doing this for a really long time too.

    Good luck!

  • I'm not at all a fan of Dr. Chin.  He was extremely rude and disrespectful to us.  Dr. A, on the other hand, is amazing! I could go on and on about how great he and his staff are.
  • Another recommendation for doctor A here!  My husband and I tried for 2 years with my OB to get pregnant before getting referred.  I got pregnant withing 2 months of seeing Dr. A and just had my daughter.  I am so grateful for his expertise.  Also his office and staff were amazing and made all of my appointments and procedures smooth and stress free.  Good Luck!

  • Second vote for Dr. Lindheim.  I absolutely adore him. I agree that he is very type A, which is exactly what I needed.  He put me at ease because he was so thorough, but is also the most personable doctor I have ever met.  His assistant, Amy, is great as well.  They both went above and beyond while I was under their care: providing cell phone numbers, always calling after procedures and big events, and just genuine care/ concern.  I can't wait to go back and visit this week when I am in the area.

  • Dr. Jennifer Thei was my hero. I went to the others and they did not listen to me. They went by their books. Dr. Thei believed in what I was saying was going on with my body. I know my body and she listened. She made me feel like I mattered and one month later I was pregnant! I have my Savannah because of her..... I was sad to have to leave her. Wish she did OBGYN as well. I also met anouther lady last week that saw Thei for the first time and was so impressed on how she truley cared about you.... Good luck

  • I like dr. thie as well.  Her office is in Blue Ash near Raymond Walters.

I liked that she took the time to sit down and talk/review my history.

I think my first meeting with her was 2 hours and I spent most of that time with her.

  • LOVE Dr. Thei as well, she is amazing and takes time to talk to you without rushing to just get to an exam and start drugs.  I was pregnant with her on my first cycle and she did a complete workup, blood tests, tested the DH and did an HSG before starting me on anything.

I got pregant on my first cycle with her and still see her now for gyno annually.
