Trouble TTC

And now my uterus is slacking... *sigh*

I had my follie monitoring ultrasound today, and I have three beautiful follies (hurray!). They're still a touch on the small-ish side, but my RE is unconcerned because I'm only on CD11, and he doesn't want me to trigger until CD13, so there's still time for growth.

However, my lining is (once again) kind of narrow (right around 6 mm). I was hoping that the switch to Femara this cycle would fix last cycle's lining issues, but I guess the Clomid has made its mark. I have two days until trigger, so there's still time for some thickening, but I'm a little worried that it's not enough and any potential embryos won't have anything to grab on to. And, of course, I'm frustrated, because my ovaries are supposed to be the problem, not my uterus.

It didn't help that my RE concluded the appointment by saying, "We can always add injectables to help your lining next cycle" because, of course, I don't want a "next cycle," I want this cycle to work. Grrrrrr.

And now I'm off to drink some POM juice and red raspberry leaf tea (can't hurt, right?) while willing my lining to get its act together.

  • I had the same problems with this cycle. I was so worried that my lining wasn't going to be thick enough, but it thickened about 1mm per day. Yay! Apparently, the average is 1-2mm every other day anyhow, so worst case scenario, your lining should be about 7mm by the time you trigger, which my RE considers a normal thickness, so you're not out!

  • If your follies are still on the smaller side, you could call and ask about adding Estrace (or any other estrogen that could be used to thicken lining) for a few days and going back in for another check. If not, I would ask about if for the next cycle, no matter what the protocol is if you've had this problem more than once. Good luck!

Mrs.Slick is right. I would definitely ask about Estrace or some sort of Estrogen supplement. You can even ask about it at your IUI this cycle. Every cycle that I have been on Femara my lining has been on the thin side at IUI, so I take Estrace twice daily during the 2ww. I'm not sure if it helps or not, but it makes me feel better about everything. Plus Estrogen helps the placenta attach and hold on better should you get pregnant.

    Good luck!

  • I just wanted to thank everyone for all of the support and the suggestions. I asked my RE about Estrace, and she said that she wasn't comfortable prescribing it because (in her words) there's no definitive support for using it to thicken lining. She said that, as far as thickening goes, there is really no substitute for the estrogen released by a woman's follicles as they grow.

She also said that, with two additional days of growth, my lining should be able to support an embryo, if we're lucky enought to make one this cycle. So now I'm just praying that she's right and this is our cycle!

    Thanks again!
