Pre-term Labor

So at 24 weeks I went to L&D for contractions. They were able to get them under control and sent me home on modified bedrest. Friday I went into L&D for Contractions again. They were every 3 min. They couldn't get them to stop so they admitted me. I was not dehydrated and they couldn't find anything that was causing them. I dilated to 1 cm by the am on Saturday. They then stopped to 1 an hour and they let me head home. They told me if there is any change contractions more then 4 an hour and other things like bleeding or noticing my water broke I need to head in. I have been keeping track and the last hour they have been 3.5 min apart. I am trying to control them with my water intake and resting on my left side but they seem to keep coming. Baby is fine no change in his movement. Just some advise of if you think I need to head back in.

Re: Pre-term Labor

  • I delivered my son at 27 weeks for undermined PTL that sounds very similar to yours.

Do they have you on meds?

3.5 minutes apart you need to go to the hospital ASAP.

  • My husband had me tracking them on his Iphone app and they were 2.5 min apart. I am trying to chug lots of water and laying down on the couch. I also have a cold that came about yesterday and is kicking my butt. Could that also be a part of it. I have been sneezing and could that irritate my uterus.

  • It could be....but....they say 4 in an hour and if they are 2.5 minutes apart..You can do the math.

My advice is head to the hospital now. I did not take my PTL contractions as seriously as I should have. I ended up spending 10 days in the hospital 48 hours on magnesium and the rest on procardia. The day I delivered my son I was feeling perfectly fine, was doing my daily NST and praying that I could go home. The rule was that if I didn't have any contractions for 72 hours that I got to go home on strict bed rest. Well, out of now where my contractions started at every 3 minutes. That started at 10:15AM he came at 12:50pm quick fast and in a hurry.

If you are in real labor they may be able to stop it now but if your wait...well...it may be too late.

Oh, do they not have you on any meds?

  • Sorry forgot to answer the questions. No meds were trying to avoid medications. My husband and I work together and he is off in an hour. Waiting for my doc to call back. the last couple have been about 5 min apart so I am hoping the water and lounging on the office couch is helping. I am also trying to keep my bladder empty

  • Yeah sounds like you need to stay in the hospital. Maybe they can put you on something to try and stop them again.
  • For the safety of your baby I would head in. You don't want to have your LO this early. They can give you Terbutaline Sulfate or Procardia to stop labor. They can also give you steroid shot's for your LO's lungs.
  • If they are 3.5 apart and not stopping or spacing out you should call and head in. Better to play it safe then sorry.
  • I went in and they got them to stop and let me go home but I am officially on full time bedrest starting tomorrow. Plus I have my 3 Hour glucose test tomorrow. Ugh. In this for the long run. They said they are going to vigorously stop it for the next 4 weeks and then if he tries to come after that then they will let him come.
