Question about hbp

Hello ladies, I am actually a usual over on the Infertility and TTTC boards due to my husband's male factor infertility. We will be doing IVF in January and I wanted to know if any of you ladies had high blood pressure before getting pregnant and how it's holding up now. I take a beta blocker to control mine which has worked, but I have had hbp since I was a kid. It is genetic, but I am sure me being a bit overweight certainly doesn't help things. My doctors aren't really concerned, but I think I will probably be a high risk pregnant, especially if we are blessed with having twins. So, just getting some feelers out there.

How had your bp changed since you became pregnant?

What do you do to keep it under control?

Have you been put on bed rest? How far along were you?

Are you expecting multiples? What did the doctor tell you to do differently?

I just posted about a similar theme! I was diagnosed with hbp with my last pregnancy. It seems that everything is starting early this time. My numbers have been rising despite my continued meds and I'm having some other slight symptoms of pre-e. We'll see the dr. today and see what he says.

Hi there! I have had high BP for 10 years or so and have been on various meds over the years. When we started TTC, my dr. switched me to a med that was safe for pg. They had trouble finding one that was effective for me and safe for pg. They tried aldomet and nifedipine but neither did anything for my BP. This occurred when we were doing IF treatments but before I had a sticky BROWN. About 6 months before I conceived, I was started on Labetalol. My BP has been great so far during pg on the Labetalol. I was having it checked at work but now I check it daily at home. My doctor said that my BP med can be increased if needed during pg since I'm on a low dose. I was put on bedrest at 21 weeks but it's not BP related. I do think me being on bedrest has helped keep my BPs low. We lost a twin early on with this pg at 8 weeks or so. Good luck!!

LOL, I was trying to figure out in my head what BROWN stood for, ha! Thank you SO much. When we first started ttc...a while ago, I was switched to labetalol too! It keeps it down, and I am really relieved to know that it is working for you during your pregnancy. Thanks so much!

Ive had it both pregnancies. I go on a BP med at 8 weeks to manage it. Protocol for me includes seeing a peri/MFM for growth u/s at 24,28,32,36 weeks as wel as weekly biophysical prophile u/s after 32w. I get induced at 39w too. High BP can lead to pre ecclampsia (but doesnt have to...i never developed anything last5 time) so you will also be monitored more closely for protein in your urine and will probably have to do an extra 24hour collection too. High BP can cause low birth weight, poor growth,premature delivery, and placenta issues...BUT my Dd was born big and healthy after an induction and vag delivery at 39w. Ask questions and dont hesitate to ask if you should be on meds...id rather take a BP med (preg safe of course) than be on bedrest for weeks and deliver early anyways. GL!

I have had HBP since my early 20's maybe before... i take 50 mg of toprol daily and my numbers pre pregnancy are 130/70

since becoming pregnant my BP has dropped to 120/60 sometimes 112/60 so much lower

What do you do to keep it under control?

I have not changed anything since becoming pregnant

Have you been put on bed rest? How far along were you?

 Yes, for low blood flow to baby a's umbilical artery which may or may not have been caused by HBP. I was placed on bedrest at 27 weeks

Are you expecting multiples? What did the doctor tell you to do differently?

Yes, twins. i am taking 1 low dose asprin/day to help with blood flow.
