They are different. Mint extract has a couple different mints in it (spearmint and peppermint I think). Peppermint extract is just peppermint. They taste different, but I think it would depend on the recipe to decide if you can substitute. What are you making?

I know I've seen both Peppermint and Spearmint extract at my grocery store, I think. Maybe use whichever you prefer? I don't think it would make a huge impact, especially if it's not the most dominant flavour.

I only saw peppermint at the store, so I just bought that. I prefer peppermint to spearment though.
