Re: ~*~*~*~IVF Check-In~*~*~*~

  • Hugs to all who are suffering.  Yay to those with recent good news!

Update copied from my earlier post on IFV:  I went to the RE today for a saline infusion sonogram (SIS) and my ute looks good. No scars from my D&C and no fibroids.  Yay!  About 5 follies on each ovary.  I'm on BCP now and will be on again in Dec.  They said to call when period comes and then I'll get my exact calendar for IVF #4.  Most likely, I'll be starting Lupron around 12/24 for 2 weeks and then stims with ER/ET in early/mid Jan.

QOTW: We had insurance coverage for all prior IVFs.  However, even with coverage, we had to pay part of it.  Up to now, we've spent about $10,000 for our share of testing, procedures and meds.  For this coming IVF #4, we are OOP for everything.  The sad thing is this one cycle will cost us more than the others added together.  We have the money in savings so that is good.  However, I'll put it on a credit card to get the points and then pay in full when bill comes.

TTC #1 since October 2008. Dealing with MFI.
    IVF #1 w ICSI in July 2010 = BFN
IVF #2.1 in Oct 2010 converted to IUI = BFN
    IVF #2.2 w ICSI in Dec 2010 = BFN
Met with new RE in new city on 1/31/11.
    IVF #3 w ICSI in April 2011. HPT on 5/9 = BFP!
    Beta #1 on 5/10 (10dp5dt) = 99.4. Beta #2 on 5/12 = 284. First u/s on 5/26. = Fraternal TWINS!
Twin boys born & lost on 8/16/11 at 18w1d due to PPROM & preterm labor.
IVF #4.1 in Jan 2012 converted to IUI on 1/7/12 = BFN
    IVF #4.2 w ICSI in Feb 2012. Lupron on 2/10. Stims on 2/18. ER on 2/29- 7R,6F
ET scheduled for 3/5/12- nothing to transfer :(
Dh seeing new MFI uro & Dh starting meds- June 2012.

Update: I'm 4dp5dt and going crazy! This 2WW is going to kill me. I have 9 days until my beta but I will definitely POAS before then. I have no willpower. Symptoms wise I've had on/off cramps and other symptoms I contribute to the progesterone. Thinking of everyone going through IVF!

QOTW:?? Are you OOP for IVF or do you have insurance coverage? I have insurance coverage which covers 50% of all infertility services. I only have 3 lifetime IVF's however

If you have insurance, what is your coverage? Kaiser Permanente

  • Update: I begged my nurse to move up my beta, as I was bleeding pretty heavily over the weekend. It was negative and AF came with a vengeance today. We don't have any frozen embryos, so we will be moving into another fresh cycle in a couple of months. WTF is scheduled for 11/28.

QOTW: My old job had IF coverage, so I've been on COBRA since I left in April. Although, I'm pretty sure we will be hitting our max ($25K). For this cycle, we paid a $1300 deposit. I think meds were around $230. We were really lucky. Today, we got news that DH's new insurance plan will cover $15k for treatment and 15k for meds. We are thrilled with this news!

  • Can you please add my name to the list.  I am currently taking Lupron Sad and starting stims next Tuesday.

We have 80% coverage for 4 IVF cycles.  It's just so unfair how IVF coverage varies not only from state to state but from company to company.  Wouldn't it be nice if everyone were able to pursue fertility treatments based on needed treatment rather than on $$.

Update:  I had a natural m/c on Sunday morning.  I go to my RE tomorrow for an u/s and bloodwork to make sure my body is doing what it needs to in order to heal.  Plan is to do a FET as soon as my RE clears me.  I'm confused because this morning the ART coordinator mentioned two frosties, but we were originally told there were three.  Hoping to find out what's going on with embie #3 tomorrow.

QOTW:  We have insurance coverage, with a max lifetime coverage of $25,000.  Since we're on a PPO we have to meet our annual deductible ($4,800) and then have 80% coverage.  When all is said and done, with insurance we still paid $6K+ for our first IVF cycle - and our deductible will reset just in time for FET#1 (so we'll be paying for the majority of it OOP).  Time to up our FSA contributions.  :) Our OOP expenses are coming from savings.

  • I had my ER today and it was rough.  I had a lot of pain after and was very dizzy and sick from the anesthesia.  They only got four eggs.  I am hoping that they all fertilize and are of good quality.  How heart breaking this process is.  All this work for not the best results.

I do have insurance coverage and I know how blessed I am.  The only problem for me is that I am a poor responder so there's always the threat that they will stop coverage.

  • Good luck to: Blueberries08 (Beta 11/17), Bttrfly0727 (Beta 11/15), Emntom (Beta 11/21), Justlld (Beta 11/21), Missjul61 (FET #2), Ruthie04 (Beta 11/16)  - And anyone having a Lap, HSG, extra testing, baseline, follie check, ER, ET, FET, Beta or WTF this week!!!!!

Update:  Nothing new to report - I am on CD 9.  I don't expect to O before Thanksgiving, so my guess is my IUI will be that weekend.

QOTW:   Are you OOP for IVF or do you have insurance coverage?  I had a total of $8,000 of IF coverage for treatment - mind you insurance only pays out a smaller amount than the actual charges, so I was able to get 2 unmedicated IUI's out of it last year and my 2 IVF cycles.  I wasn't expecting that both IVF cycles would be covered, but they were.  I was told that for some reason the b/w and u/s didn't count against that total.  Prior to this IVF I had about $500 of coverage left, it covered this IUI as well - that is why we are doing IUI's right now, to have them covered.  Well, that and the fact that IVF didn't seem to give us any better results.

If we do another IVF cycle we will be totally OOP.  We have money saved from our tax return last year and the RE said since we had two failed cycles they would give me a discounted cycle, but I don't know how much of a discount.  So I am not sure if we will be able to afford it at all.  I guess then the decision will be whether we cycle with them again or go somewhere else in the country, like CCRM.  In that case it will also go on a cc and DH will get a loan through his credit union.  That would be it though then - the last ditch effort.  We could only do one cycle like that - if at all.  It sucks, but I am thankful for the coverage we did have.  I just wish it would have worked.

  • Update: No update. My WTF is 11/29. On a break until at least January but it may be permanent...DE's are being considered by me but DH isn't interested.

QOTW:   Are you OOP for IVF or do you have insurance coverage?

If you are OOP, how do you pay for IVF (save, credit, loans, grants, etc...)?

If you have insurance, what is your coverage? I have coverage. My insurance covers 80% and covers several IVF's (I think 5).  We also added me to DH's insurance and they cover the remaining 20%.  I have to pre-pay the 20% for the drug co pay(about $2K) but I get it back after about 8 weeks (I'm not complaining).  The secondary insurer does have to pre-approve the IVF cycle and have lots of rules. Based on my poor response from IVF#1 and #2, they are unlikely to approve me for another round. Again, I can't complain since I've had IVF 1 and 2 covered at 100%.

Update: I had my endometrial biopsy today. I have two days left of BCPs and today was day 6 of synarel (lupron's sister). I anticipate starting stims this weekend or early next week.

QOTW:  We are OOP for the actual procedure, but have coverage for the meds.  We are fortunate enough to both have good jobs so we don't have to use credit or dip into savings.

Update:  Triggered tonight for Wednesday ER!!  ET on Monday, 11/21, and beta 11/30!

QOTW:   Are you OOP for IVF or do you have insurance coverage?

Very blessed to have insurance coverage through my DH's company.  Even though we live in Texas, my DH's company is based out of MA so we have BCBS of MA.  We have coverage for 6 IVF cycles (with unlimited FETs - too bad I've never been able to do an FET).  We were also very fortunate that b/c of my DH's balanced translocation, our two PGD cycles were also covered.  I'm very thankful for the insurance coverage as we are on our 5th IVF now (having moved on to donor sperm).

We have used our savings for this cycle, but if god forbid we have to cycle again, we will be borrowing the money from our parents.

  • Hugs to those who need them! Good luck to all the upcoming betas and procedures! We transferred two beautiful 6 day blasts on Friday (one was hatching!). I'm on day 3 of the 2ww. RE said we could POAS on Sunday (beta should be that day, but finding a lab on Sunday is tricky). Beta is 11/21. Hoping hoping hoping for the BFP this time. QOTW: We're oop, so we got a loan from a peer-to-peer lending group for IVF 1. If this FET works, we'll get a loan from the bank of mom and dad to pay off the other loan. If we need to do IVF 2, we'll use the loan from my parents.

  • Update:  I actually have a second opinion with another RE tomorrow at the recommendation of an MH's Uro, after having some issues and hearing things about my local RE.  Unfortunately, this RE is about 2 hours away... which will mean tons of driving.  But I think it will be worth it if we feel like we're in good hands.

QOTW:  We are totally OOP -- I hate my insurance!  But we are lucky because MH inherited some money from his grandmother, which will cover IVF #1.  Would be nice to save it for a baby, but you gotta do what you gotta do!

Severe MFI. Me: supposedly all clear but eggs showed vacuoles.

IVF #1 January 2012, ER Jan 14th: 34R, 27M, 23F. Day 3: 18 embies still strong. Day 5: zero "good," one "fair," the rest "poor." Transferred 3. None made it to blast or to freeze. Jan 28: BFN.

Lucky IVF #2: Transferred two beautiful day three embies on St. Patrick's Day. BFP on HPT 7dp3dt. Beta 1 (14dpER)=106; Beta 2 (16dpER)=140; Beta 3 (19dpER)=264! First u/s 4.17.

  • Sending hugs and healing to those who had losses this month.  :'(

Best wishes to all those in the 2WW and doing their ERs and ETs!!

I am still the same ... IVF#2 should be starting in December unless it will interfere with the lab's holiday shutdown.  If that happens (depends on when AF shows at the end of Nov) then I will have to wait until January to start.

We are 100% OOP, and have used all our savings to pay for it... we had/have help from our RE and that has made this even possible.

  • Could you please add me to the list?

Pinkmickey24-Currently on BCP for IVF with ICSI number 1 due to DH low morphology. DH and I have been TTC since July 2010. ER estimated 12/14 and ET estimated for 12/17 or 12/19

Wishing good luck to everyone and sending HUGS to all that are in need of thoughts and prayers.

QOTD: We are fortunate to have full IVF coverage except for cryopreservation. Our insurance allows 3 attempts at IVF, if there is no live birth after the 3rd attempt it is no longer covered. However, if we get a live birth within the 3 attempts they will permit future IVF cycles.

QOTW:?? Are you OOP for IVF or do you have insurance coverage?

Completely OOP for IVF 1 and FET 1 and 2 but if FET 2 doesnt work, we will have some coverage in 2012. Happy that my company decided to offer some IVF benefits. Anything helps.

If you are OOP, how do you pay for IVF (save, credit, loans, grants, etc...)?

Savings. I enrolled in a healthcare FSA too to help offset future costs.

If you have insurance, what is your coverage?

    In 2012, I will have 50% coverage with a lifetime max of 10k. ?

Update: I am waiting for AF to show up so I can get my day 3 testing completed.  DH is going for his second S/A Thursday or Friday and his urology consult is the 29th.   I'm hoping after this our insurance will quickly okay the cycle and we can get a move on.  I'm sick of waiting.

QOTW:   Are you OOP for IVF or do you have insurance coverage? We have insurance

If you are OOP, how do you pay for IVF (save, credit, loans, grants, etc...)?

If you have insurance, what is your coverage? We are INCREDIBLY lucky.   My meds are paid for, except for co-pays; same with my visits.  All my u/s and b/w is covered as well as the the actual ER and ET.   We are capped at 6 ART cycles, which include FET even though originally I was told it did not.

  • QOTD: We are completely OOP. We had been saving for IVF (two years no treatment) but DH lost his job. Thankfully I had found a clinical trial that we could afford and were accepted into.

UPDATE: Today is 8dp3dt, yesterday I had AF type of cramping and last night the applicator from my nightly dose of endometrin showed some soft pink cm and two specks of bright red blood. This morning the cramps are pretty much gone (so far) and the applicator this morning was clear! I am hoping that it is just implantation cramping & spotting. I am really afraid that this cycle is a bust. DH keeps telling me that I have never been pregnant so I don't know what it feels like - not to get upset. He is my rock!

Update: I went for my pre-ivf eval yesterday, all looks good. Because of scheduling I am on BCP for 2 more days and will start stims on Saturday. I go for monitoring on Tuesday.

QOTW:   Are you OOP for IVF or do you have insurance coverage? We are blessed with insurance coverage.

If you are OOP, how do you pay for IVF (save, credit, loans, grants, etc...)? If we were OOP, we would save.

If you have insurance, what is your coverage? Last IVF we had to pay $3000, it covered ICSI but not cryo and storage, co-pays for appointments, and pay for meds of about $200. This IVF (we switched from HMO to PPO) everything is covered ICSI, PGD, Cryo. We have to pay a storage fee of $360, pay co-pays, and pay for meds, roughly $200.  Anything donor is also not covered.

No update here...just in the middle of my 2ww & trying not to go nuts! :) I've sworn I'm not gonna POAS, but we'll see if I actually stick to it. Beta is 11/22.

QOTW: Our insurance covered all infertility "testing" but not treatments... Thankfully everything up until IVF & most of our medications have been covered. My steroids, antibiotics, Lupron, needles, syringes, Vivelle, Endometrin & Valium only cost me approx $150 OOP...but the Menopur & Follistim were a whopping $2K. While we had some $$ in savings, we took out a small loan to pay for this cycle...

Update: DH is producing sperm again so IVF is on for January!

QOTW:   Are you OOP for IVF or do you have insurance coverage? Right now and for the past couple years we have been OOP for IVF, that is why we haven't done it, we would never be able to afford that.

If you are OOP, how do you pay for IVF (save, credit, loans, grants, etc...)? We were going to take out a loan, but then DH had to have his own surgeries and we couldn't.

If you have insurance, what is your coverage?  We are switching carriers as soon as we can. We are waiting for the state of NY to come out with their 2012 rates. We will be switching to Empire insurance which has 50,000.00 lifetime coverage for IVF procedures. I thank God everyday that we are lucky enough to have this opportunity.

Good luck to everybody with testing this week, ERs, ETs, betas, etc!

My update: I've been POASing since Sunday and getting faint BFPs, and a BFP on a digital this morning.  Beta is 18 Nov (Friday).

  • Good morning ladies,
UPDATE: I am still on BCP, but I am starting Lupron tomorrow! DH and I completed our consent forms and injections class last night. We both are feeling good and DH, upon the suggestion of our IVF nurse, is booking me a couple of massages leading up to ER (yay!) Good luck to everyone in where you are in your cycle right now, and ((HUGS)) and prayers for those in pain right now.
QOTW: We are OOP for the IVF procedures (ER & ET), but our medication and all monitoring and bloodwork is covered by insurance. We feel very fortunate to have even that much coverage at this point. Previously to this year, our insurance had a lifetime max of $10,000 for any type of infertility treatment, including IVF, so we had paid nothing for any of the 4 Clomid and 4 IUI cycles we did. Unfortunately, this benefit was cut along with many others this year. Definitely makes me regret not going to IVF immediately, but I'm sure we all know hindsight is 20/20.

  • Hugs to all those who have gotten bad news lately.  And good luck to all those in the 2ww!

Update:  Still waiting on AF to show so I can get started on my FET.  I'm thinking any day now.

QOTW:  I'm OOP for IVF itself.  So far, my insurance has been covering monitoring, but they recently denied two of my u/s from my IVF cycle in September  -- I was on the phone with them for the past 30 minutes.  My insurance has also been covering some of my prescriptions, but not all.  I'm completely OOP for stims.  For my last cycle, I spent a little over $12,000 total (including meds).

To pay for it, we've dipped into savings a bit and we also have a ton of equity in our house, so we did cash-out refinance, and thanks to the extremely low interest rates, our monthly payments have not changed following the refinance.  We spent our "cushion" money on all the testing and our IUIs earlier this year (including our FSAs, and we put the maximum amount we could put in them for both of us).

  • Big hugs to those needing them, and GL to those waiting on betas!!

Update:  We just began our first FET cycle, and are expecting ET right around Thanksgiving.

QOTW:  We've been 100% OOP for all fertility treatments done to date :(  We saved for a long time, and have also now emptied our savings.  It's been hard, and it really gets me down sometimes, but I'm grateful that we've even been able to try.  We've spent around 30k so far.  It would be an understatement to say our insurance (United Healthcare) sucks.  We just found out that DH's company will be switching to BCBS, unfortunately still with zero IF coverage, though.  Ugh, must think happy thoughts now!  ;)

  • Hi ladies,

I am doing IVF #1, diagnosed with MFI, we're doing ICSI too.

Currently I am on Follistim and Menopur, adding Ganirelix and Omnitrope tomorrow.

My husband is giving me my shots, and I have to say I'm surprised by how much of an intimate experience IVF has been between us.

I'm rooting for everyone on here (been lurking since June when we were diagnosed with MFI, but waited to post until we had a plan of action).

ETA: I forgot to answer the question! We are 100% OOP. We've cut back on everything and the tiny amount we've been able to save since I finally got a job is going to be eaten up completely.

    Photobucket
  • Hugs and crossed fingers to everyone who needs them.  I am rooting for you ladies!

I am waiting for AF to start this week so I can begin stims.  Will be starting on 2 vials each of Menopur and Bravelle.

QOTW: I have $15K lifetime infertility coverage, which includes meds.  I know I am lucky to have anything at all, but I am disappointed in that most of that will be used up by then end of this IVF cycle.  I do have a $2500 deductible (then it pays 80% until our max OOP) every calendar year, so because of our timing, we will get hit with that for 3 years in a row (hello, HSA).

  • Update: Got a +hpt today at 6dp5dt! My estrogen was very low yesterday so I just started on pills today (this was actually the first time I wasn't on estrogen since transfer). My beta isn't until 11/20 (Sunday). Just hoping and praying that this leads to something great!

QOTW: In Israel, we have socialized medicine that covers all fertility treatment. Quite amazing, though you do have to meet certain criteria to qualify.

    IUIs #1-3 (1x unmedicated, 2x Clomid) = 2 BFNs, 1 m/c at 7w3d
    IUIs #4-6 (injects) = 3 BFNs
    IVF #1 = BFN
    FET #1 = BFN
    FET #2 = BFN
IVF #2 = BFP, b/g twins lost at 20w due to partial abruption/PPROM
    IVF #3 = c/p 5w2d
Long-shot Clomid/Prednisone cycle before next IVF = BFP, our beautiful, healthy girl born 6/26/13!

  • My IVF was converted to IUI on saturday, not enough follicles and E2 was too low. Im waiting to see if this worked if not we regroup with RE and make a new plan.

I am completely OOP for treatments, we pay by using savings and credit cards for meds mostly.

    *TTC Since 10/09 *Dx with MFI 05/10 *IUI#1 May 2011 BFN *Switched RE *IVF# 1 November 2011 IVF converted to IUI#2 BFN IVF# 1.2 Jan/Feb 2012 BFP * U/S 03/06/12 Twins!! * Lilypie Premature Baby tickers
  • IVF #2 is still a bit ambiguous. I'm hoping things take a turn for the positive, but I'm bracing for this not to end well.

I've started estrogen supplements today. We'll know more on Friday.

QOTW: We have fresh cycles paid 50% by insurance, leaving us with each cycle costing about $2700.

We'd like to move in the next year or so after we've used up our IVF limit, but we're kind of pacing ourselves as we take one step at a time.

We're feeling desperate and thinking about other options... asking someone to be a surrogate, going to India for IVF treatment, basically anything we can.

(Live in Europe) TTC since 1/2010
