Trouble TTC

Follistim tips?

So I need to do my first follistim shot tonight and I am am a bit worried. Should I follow my pre-ovidrel set up (take shot out of fridge, ice inject sit for 10 min, prep area, and inject) or is there a better way to do this type of injection?

Re: Follistim tips?

  • Do you have the follistim pen? If so, it's super easy and I would take it out a few minutes early and warm it in your hand/fist. I usually did mine cold, even the larger doses. I would just prep/clean area, clean vial, attach needle, dial pen and inject.

  • The first shot is always the hardest.  I swear I hovered over the area and chickened out at least 10 times before I finally did it.  But its really not a big deal.  Just a little pin prick and its over :)

Try to relax and just do it!  Good luck!

  • You barely even feel it.  It definitely gets easier.  The first one was hard but now I barely even think about it.

    Good luck!

  • Icing for ten minutes is not advised. Maybe 20-30 seconds to numb the skin beforehand, but that's it. With stims, you also don't want to ice afterwards because the blood vessels constrict, unhibiting absorption (this is also true for any IM shots). You can use a heating pad afterwards, which I've read on various boards as being helpful with the burning. I just asked my nurse about all of this yesterday, so this is pretty trustworthy data. I wouldn't share it with you otherwise. GL to us all!
