Is this common (PTing)?

So we did the 3 day PTing back in mid-sept. After a rough first week, she did awesome!  She's been accident free for a few weeks now and today she peed her pants twice without ever saying anything about it. Is this common for them to have regressions at times?  She also has never pooped on the potty-she'll wait until her diaper is on for nap or bedtime (but I think thats just her time to go anyways). But, she has pooped her pants a few times in the past week as well. It's just frustrating to go backwards instead of forwards with this stuff!

Re: Is this common (PTing)?

  • #2 is tougher to train.. my DD never went #2 except at home until she was 4!  (And she was PTd at 2.25).  I think regressions are normal, a lot of it has to do with them getting used to the urges and getting to the bathroom on time.

  • I think it's common for them to have regressions.  At least that's how it is with my oldest.  He has really been doing great with both peeing and pooping on the potty but he still has accidents or just gets lazy sometimes and goes in his pants.  It's so frustrating especially when he's 5 steps from the bathroom.  And as far as the pooping goes.....I thought Justin would NEVER poop on the potty and then it just happened.

  • Regressions are really normal.  We had accidents here and there- usually when R was really absorbed in something.  I also think she tried to see how long she could hold it for.

And #2 took her a lot longer to get, it was a good few months before she was comfortable doing it.

  • I think it is....  DD will occasionally have little accidents with me - like she starts to go and then stops and does the rest on the potty.  With DH she will occasionally have a full bladder accident, but I think she does more independent play with him.

As for pooping - dd just had her first poop on the potty 2 days ago and we did the 3dpt like a week or 2 after you.  And the only reason she did it on the potty was that she was in the bath tub and suddenly told me she had to go potty.  I got her out and on the potty expecting pee, but was surprised!  She also poops at nap time only usually.  So I haven't worried too much about it, that is just her time to go and I don't know if there is an easy way to change that to earlier or later.

My neighbor's 3.5 yr old got potty trained this summer and she says he still occasionally has accidents.  I figure some kids do and some don't.  I do have to say if we are out doing stuff she almost never has an accident.  I think only once, but I have a potty in my car and offer it to her every 1.5-2.5 hours.  It is more when we are just sitting around the house.
