C-sections

Repeat C-section and nervous, anyone else?

I had an unplanned c-section with my daughter and will be having a repeat this time around, its scheduled for next Friday. Last time since I didnt know I was going to have one I wasn't nervous since I didnt know what to expect. I did however have a great experience with my last and recovered very well. This time around I'm feeling nervous. I guess because of the whole surgery thing, going to the hospital knowing exactly what they are going to do, walking in the OR, etc.

Is anyone with a reapeat c-section feeling a little nervous this time around also?

Re: Repeat C-section and nervous, anyone else?

  • It's totally normal to feel nervous, no worries! I was right there with you a few weeks ago when I had a RCS for DS! I really wanted to VBAC but my LO wasn't coming! I too didn't have a planned c/s with my twins (was induced and had to convert to a c/s) and was totally unprepared for it.

This time around, they talked me through the whole thing, the prep time beforehand made me feel much for relaxed and "in the know" and I made sure to tell my OB prior to the c/s that I wanted to see DS asap after I got to recovery (with DDs, they had me parted from them for several hours). I got to BF DS in my room and it was just an overall much better c/s experience!!

Best of luck next week! It will go great, no doubt!

  • I have a scheduled c/s tomorrow morning and I am starting to get nervous. I was induced with DD and ended up with a c/s after 21 hours of labor. I was hoping to vbac this baby but at my 40 week checkup yesterday I was told my cervix is still doing nothing to prepare. Completely closed and still posterior. My OB will let me go to 41 weeks before she recommends a rcs but I'd rather just get it over with. If it has to be this way I want it on my terms. So I'm thankful that this time it's at the time I want with the Dr I want. I'll be going in to it well rested and showered, rather than sweaty and gross after laboring for almost a day. I think it will be a lot easier for my body to recover having not labored prior (last time I had fully dialated and started pushing) and this time I'm mentally prepared. I'm excited and ready to meet my new little girl but I'd be lying if I said I weren't at all nervous about the whole surgery thing. Prior to DD's birth I had never been hospitalized and that is still my only experience with hospitals so the whole thing just kinda gives me anxeity (from what I understand I'll get some IV drugs for that. lol.) If I have time I will post an update this weekend. Good luck!

  • This is my first scheduled c/s and it is in a couple days on November 7th. I am very nervous/scared about the surgery but very excited to finally have my little boy here!
  • My first son was breech so they tried to turn him and when it was unsuccessful so I had a c-section.  With my second son it was a repeat c-section, because I decided since the first c-section went so well I would just do it again plus I was a little more scared of the VBAC.  My repeat c-section went even better than the first one.  I recovered even faster.  I think mainly because I knew what to expect and my body had been through it.

It is always normal to be a little nervous but don't worry about it everything will be fine.  Just remember they do c-sections all the time and to them it is no big deal.

  • I'm not really anxious about it, but I am a little nervous.  Last time I had an unplanned c/s after laboring for several hours and DD going into distress - I was in such pain and so freaked out about DD's safety that going into surgery was a relief.  This time I'll just be walking in without being in labor, so I'm more nervous about getting the spinal/epi (I barely remember feeling it last time until it took effect) and going straight into surgery from a state of calm instead of urgency, if that makes any sense.  But I am glad I will be more prepared for it this time - I'll have pre-op appointments at the hospital and with my OB, and I've already discussed BFing in recovery, etc. with hospital staff, so I feel like I'll have a much better sense of what to expect during and after than I did last time.

  • I postponed my RCS (it was supposed to be 2 days ago) in hopes of VBAC but so far this LO doesn't seem in a rush to come out.  If I still haven't gone into labor by Tuesday morning then I will have a RCS.  I'm okay with whatever delivery method LO chooses at this point.  I'm nervous about the c-section but know that a scheduled c/s is much calmer than an emergency one.  My DS was scheduled c/s since he was breech.  I know the worst part for me will be the nausea after the spinal wears off.  Since my c/s is at 8am in the morning, I'm hoping that most of that will have worn off by mid-afternoon.  I just can't wait to meet this LO :-D

Does this usually happen to everyone after they have had a spinal?? my c/s is on Monday (3 more days) very nervous & scared about the surgery!

  • I felt the same way.  My 1st c/s was unscheduled and everything happened so fast that I really didn't have time to process what was happening.

With my 2nd, I wasn't a good candidate for a VBAC so I opted for a RCS.  The fact that I knew this time that I was having a c/s and I had several months to think about it made me more nervous/scared than I was the 1st time I had a baby.  Just knowing that I was going to the OR and they were going to cut me open freaked me out.

It was so easy.  Having a RCS is a million times better than an unscheduled c/s.  I didn't have a bad experience with my 1st and my recovery was pretty good as well, but because it's unscheduled, you aren't as prepared and everything is so chatoic and people running around plus you've probably just spent the last several hours being in labor so you're already exhausted and then you have to have surgery.  Awesome.

With a RCS, everything is very calm and very routine and the whole atmoshphere is very relaxed.  I was laughing and joking the whole time.  It was a great experience and now I don't know what I was even freaked about in the first place. The recovery was also a lot easier this time too because my body didn't go through labor.

Try not to think about it too much. Good luck!
