Parenting after 35

I feel VERY OLD.

I was at Costco last weekend and a lady came up to me and stated, "your grandaughter is beautiful"  UUUGGGHHH  I'm only 41 with NO gray hair or wrinkles for that matter.  Why can't people just say, cute baby

Re: I feel VERY OLD.

  • Cuz you are. JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!

I'm 41 too.  No gray hair (because I dye it) and barely any wrinkles.

Seriously people need to shut their mouths. I'm sure you do NOT look like a grandmother.

Forgive me for my joke, OK? I'm in a PMS-y mood.

    Welcome, too!!!!!!

  • My husband just laughed at me and said, we are, get over it.  Well, I refuse to.  I'm going to start wearing eye make-up and doing my hair again, maybe that will make me look younger.  Flat straight hair and no makeup probably didn't help matters any I suppose.  LOL

  • Welcome! And I'm sure you look nothing like a grandmother.

Somewhere along the line, something happend that too many people just don't think before they speak anymore. It would be common sense to say "cute baby" and leave it at that, but unfortunately, common sense is lacking in a large amount of people these days. Sad.

My LO hasn't been mistaken for my grandchild, yet. But if & when it does happen, I think I'm going to say "And what makes you think this is my grandchild?" Or, I'll drop trow, point to my c-section scar & say "Would a grandchild give you this?" Depending on my mood that day.

  • I guess I should be grateful that DS is in a very possessive stage right now and he'd probably say "MY MAMA!" and grab me.

  • People suck! Older moms are the norm in our area, MIL used to be mistaken for dk's mom all the time. She loved the ego boost. But people assume, and usually put their foot in it!
  • I got that this past summer, when I didn't have my kids with me.  I feel for ya.

  • That happened to me this year also at a farmer's market near Lynchburg, VA.  Last year(at ~8 wks pregnant), I visited my sister in Lynchburg and went to a friend's party with her.  One of the ladies at the party asked if I was my sister's mother!  My sister is 38!  I know I don't look that old.  My assumption is that there are lots of stupid people out there!

  • I guess I am sitting in both shoes. I am always mistaken for my 21 y.o. DD's sister, and I am still waiting for someone to call me my 1 y.o. DD's grandma :)

  • Ha, I'm 42 dress a bit teenagerish.....Converse, jeans, etc...Have blond highlights. Don't particularly look old, or so I thought. People always think I'm younger anyway..

Well, one day some random lady asked if Sean (my dh) was my son......Wha Wha Whaaaaaaaat? She was like, oh well I don't have my glasses, blabber blabber blabber.......

I look like I have a 38 year old son????????

  • DH & I are both 40.  We have a 14 yo and a 10 month old.  About 2 months ago someone thought 14yo was my brother.  The next week someone told DH that he had an adorable grandson when he was out with Joshua.  He has had a second cute grandson remark since then.

Of course when we were dating someone thought he was my dad... I am a whole 6 days older than him.

  • I'm in the same boat- I have no idea why people say that stuff. I've had it happen twice since LO was born (DD#1 is 7yr, DD#2 is 6months)..  "You have beautiful granddaughters!"  Uhh  Thanks? THEY'RE MINE.     I'm 40.

Of course- I figure if I was a teeny-bopper I'd be getting the "Teenage Pregnancy" side-eye.

  • I got that couple weeks ago at Toddler Time at the library...the day after I had my hair dyed. I'm only 38. The woman asked if DS was my grandson...um why would you even ask? You could have asked how old my son is and if it was my GRANDson, I could have corrected it her. People don't think!
