Cloth Diapering

How to get the stink out?

DD has started having some solid food so the poop has changed...I don't think I got enough off the first big poop and now a lot of the diapers stink even after being washed. I use RNG to wash but they're still a bit smelly. How do I best wash them to remove the odor?

I read about stripping with Dawn ( not sure if stripping is necessary since they're not leaking) but how do I strip with dawn with a front-loader? Not sure how to open and see if there are no bubbles in the wash.

  • Since it is a barnyard smell I think you need more detergent.   Since you use RNG you could always rock the soak with them.  I say just wash them over and use more detergent  next time.

  • More detergent is needed. And you can strip in a front loader just fine, just add dawn and wash till the bubbles are gone. Alternatively, a very small amount of bleach will help.

  • There are a bunch of YouTube videos that show you how to strip using a front loader in case you need a visual. : )

  • Note that using Dawn to strip (unnecessary, most likely, anyway) is probably going to void the warranty on your washer.
