NBR- Walmart organic milk

Walmart now sells their store brand of organic milk in a gallon jug. It is only 5.98! We go through tons of milk and this is so much easier than buying a bunch of half gallons, and its about .30- .50 cheaper a half gallon.

This may come across as a little hippie-preachy, but watch out for organic products from Wal-mart.  They are more on the "green-washing" side of organic where they barely meet the standard, but reap the profits of the label.  You would really be better off finding a better, more reputable organic brand - especially if you can find a local farm to buy from.  Wal-mart and it's "organic" practices are shady and cut corners.  Combine this with their size and influence and they could have a very negative impact on the organic products available as other suppliers see them as an example of what they can get away with.  

Here is just one snippet from an article about them and their supplier:

"The organic milk that Wal-Mart sells under their own ?Great Value? brand is a perfect example of how their influence can negatively effect the quality of organic food. This milk is supplied by Aurora Organic Dairy which is a large company that supplies other retailers such as Safeway, Costco, and Target as well. Aurora Organic has been accused on multiple occasions of selling organic milk that is in fact not organic. Horizon Organic is another large distributor of organic milk that also supplies Wal-Mart and has been accused of the same thing. Based on this, the Organic Consumers Association has called for a boycott of both suppliers.

In 2007, USDA investigators found Aurora Organic to be in violation of 14 organic dairy requirements and threatened to revoke their certification. Legal complaints have also been filed against Horizon Organic. Unfortunately, no further action was taken and both Aurora Organic and Horizon Organic continue to flood the market with low quality ?organic? milk. Have you tried it yet? It taste funny to me. Not as good as the other brands for sure.

I had a glass this morning, but I drank it really fast and didn't really notice the taste... I was really wanting coffee!

I just tried drinking a glass just now.  It leaves a very bad, almost pesticide - like aftertaste.  DH says he can't taste it...but I sure can.  We are taking the gallon of "Great Value" organic back tomorrow and will just hit Publix for their hormone free non-organic store brand milk that has always tasted normal.

I never noticed the taste, but I wonder if something is up with them. I have noticed the last several weeks at Walmart they do not have it in stock.

I have been buying my milk at Costco lately.
