Storing BM

What do you store your BM in? I have heard conflicting things about storing BM in ziploc bags vs BM storage bags. Also do you reuse your BM storage bags?

I have been storing BM in Ziploc bags but never reusing them. I have had no problems with this to date but have had people (not doctors or lactation consultants) tell me that Ziploc bags are harmful to BM.

I use Lansinoh BM storage bags and haven't had any issues.  I haven't heard of storing it in ziploc bags, but there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between those and the Lansinoh bags...

I like the Medela bags because I can pump directly into them and it also shows how many ounces you have. But I guess it wouldn't be that difficult to pump into the normal container and then pour into a ziplock bag. I'm sure either way is fine.

i dont see why using ziplocks would be any different than BM storage bags just make sure that you label them. i have both the Medela bags and the Lansanoh bags and they both work really well, the Lansanoh bags tend to leak from time to time but i've never had a problem with the Medela ones.

Also my LC said that the only reason you shold treat BM like liqid gold is because of the white blood cells in there, if you are too rough with it they can die, so if it seperates treat it like an un airaited wine in a glass and if its in the bag gently turn it upside down and back. i can see how people might think the Ziplocks would be not good for this because they are a bit thinner but as long as your carefull it really shouldnt make a difference...

I wouldn't store it in anything that wasn't designed for breast milk.  Breastmilk bags are lined with nylon and keeps the "good stuff" from sticking to the bags.  I just imagine how much freezer burn food can get when in ziplock bags, I wouldn't want that to happen to the milk.
