So this is new to me, but maybe you all already have this or heard of this...when we revealed we were expecting, DH's mom took all of about half a day to declare what she was going to be called now that she's going to be a grandmother. Now, every email she sends us contains: Love, Mom (I mean GiGi, my new grandmother name!)
:rolls eyes:
I want to be like, "I hate to break it to you, but LO is going to have like 3 grandmothers and you will be called whatever he decides he can pronounce!"
But the other day, my grandmother (LO will have 2 great-grandmothers!) signed her email GG! (I'm guessing it's for "Great-Grandmother). So, is this a new trend going on, or does my family have this weird new coincidence?
I personally don't like it at all. It reminds me of a stripper from the 70's or something. Or that bad JLo and Ben Affleck movie (minus one "L").

My Married Bio
My mom = Nana
My other mother = MeMe
My grandmother that just passed away = Granny
My MIL = Gammie
My step MIL = Gran to Juliana and MeMe to Mason and Aiden (my nephews) instead of just choosing an all-original name, she worked around and existing MeMe and Granny on both sides of the fam.
Step MIL's mom is GiGi, which is short for great-grandmother
I tried to convince my step MIL to be Honey or something completely original that all the grandbabies can call her, but she's an idiot.
HA, my mother says she's "not old enough to be a grandmother yet" so she wants our LO to call her "Aunt Pam". Um, thanks.
lol
My cousin had a baby at 19, and my uncle felt the same way. He told her he wanted to be called "Bill Thompson." Totally random.
My nieces and nephew call my mom GiGi. It's what the first born started calling her, and it stuck.
I think it's confusing for children to only call their grandparents "grandma and grandpa". I always had separate names for them growing up because they are all different people. To the person that said their children will be told to only use "grandma and grandpa"- What's so wrong with calling them different names?
A15 January Siggy Challenge-
I have heard Gigi before, my cousin is having a baby soon and my Aunt wants to be called Gigi. I thought she came up with it though, guess not! She is Grandma Gail, so thats where she got the Gigi from.
I feel the same as Moneypenney. If my mom wants to be called something specific, so be it.
A lot of times things don't work out with how you want them to call others anyways. Kids have a nack at making up all sorts of crazy names. My parents haven't even brought it up yet. I know DH's parents will probably be Abuela and Abuelo (spanish).
My nephews call me Titi (tee-tee) kind of an abrievated version of "Tia" Kate and I love it!
My mom will be called GiGi, but only because my brothers kids call her that.
My MIL is called Nana and my step mom is called RahRah (her name is robin)
