When to raise the jumperoo?

Stupid me, threw out the booklet for the FP Rainforest Jumperoo. Does anyone have this one and know when it's time to raise to level 2? DD can put her flat foot on the floor (with a slight bend at the knee) and is doing less jumping now and more swinging around motions. Should it mainly be their toes touching? TIA!

ETA: Also, do you know what the weight limit is? Sorry, I suck for throwing the paperwork away..

Re: When to raise the jumperoo?

  • I don't have that one, but my exersaucer says that their feet should NEVER be flat on the floor/bottom of equipment.  Only their toes should be touching.  Did you try googling for the manual?

  • We don't have the FP Rainforest Jumperoo but you can download the manual on their site. Here's the link. :)

I'm just curious, and maybe this is a stupid question, but why shouldn't their feet ever touch? Is it fear of them actually jumping out? Or will it hurt them in some way?

If they can touch the entire bottom of their feet on the ground, then the seat is not holding their weight so much, and I would think be baby jumping up and down could cause the baby to land on his/her feet with his/her near full body weight. I would think that this could cause an injury in an infant, since they don't have the coordination to know how to land. With an adult jumping from relatively high, we know how to land on our feet and to bend our knees, but a baby hasn't learned these skills.

It is just a theory, 'though. If a baby pushed up against the floor and kept his legs straight, or even locked at the knees, then hit the ground, it could cause an injury. If the baby can only touch his toes, then the seat is always supporting him to some extent.

Any other moms have theories? I could be totally off. It could be simply that it's harder to bounce when you can fully stand in it.

  • I got this from another message board

OK so I called Fisher Price and they simply said the only advice they can give is babies can go into them til 32cm and that they would not comment about feet flat on floor. So I called my HV and she said as long as he is under the weight (11kg) then she has no concerns as long as like with all things like that only in short bursts of 30mins at a time.

So Josh will stay in his til he reaches 11kg as he loves his Jumperoo he does like his walker but I can't put him in a walker and do some housework as I think they need to be watched MORE in a walker!

    Hope this helps you all

  • I have also heard that only their toes should touch b/c if they are flat footed, then when they are coming down they could break or sprain a leg/ankle.

  • I was looking into this further and found this on another website's message boards.  The woman emailed EvenFlo (which is the brand I have, too) and this is what they replied:

    "Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Evenflo Exersaucers.

When a child is placed into the Exersaucer it is advised the child not be flat footed. The recommendation is for a variety of reasons. The Exersaucers are capable of rocking; when a child is flat footed the momentum a child is able to get is more significant when flat footed versus on tip toe. The child has more balance when positioned flat foot which can make it easier for a child to tip the Exersaucer or climb out.

Children who are in the Exersaucer are not capable of walking yet, therefore full body weight is not recommended on the child?s legs when a child bounces/jumps. When the child gets excited or stimulated by the toys a child will often bounce or jump. The impact of a child?s full body weight coming down from a bounce/jump is not being caught by the Exersaucer springs if the child is placed in the Exersaucer with flat feet.

I hope the above information is helpful in explaining why a child is recommended to remain tip toed while in the Exersaucer.

Thank you for contacting Evenflo. I appreciate the time you have taken to email us.

  • I'm glad this was posted. I just put LO in the jumperoo today and only her toes could touch the ground. DH seemed to think she wasn't big enough because of that but she was bouncing around just fine. I'm glad I can now tell him everything is ok. This is very good info to know.
