I'm new here but I feel I need to post on this. What about the thousands, if not millions of dollars paid for hospital and doctor visits because of a child getting polio or the measles or rubella because they were not vaccinated??  Or, not to be morbid, the funeral costs. Yes, I've had patients who have died from pertussis. Whether parents delay the schedule or not they are vaccinating to protect their children from horrible diseases. I suggest you get real.

I am also new here and I completely agree with this.

ETA: I also completely agree with this:

So....I shouldn't give my kid a vaccine because the people who make said vaccines get money for it. Good argument, that one. Much better that she get Polio than those bastards see a dime. For sure.

Guess I shouldn't eat food either. As the grocery store I buy said food at makes a profit. Or wear clothes. That Old Navy is making a fortune off of me, and society is perpetuating the cycle by insisting I wear pants.

    I sense a revolution. A naked one.

  • Why shouldn't the pharma companies make money?  Researching and developing all of the medications and vaccines costs money.  They shouldn't be free.
  • This is so ridiculously boring. I was excited to finally see a popular post and get some action on this board, and I opened it, and it was...this. Again.

Yikes!  Sorry I'm late to the party, but my daughter has been sick, so I haven't been bumping today.  I started the original thread on this topic.  The whole thing is silly, and I think lack asleep has affective my judgment and my annoyance level with others.

To clarify, I noticed people commenting on Facebook that they were delaying vaccines, and in at least one case skipping some.  At least part of the reason seemed to be that the government, pharmaceutical companies, and insurance companies were somehow conspiring to make more money by setting and pushing the recommended vaccine schedule.  They thought the schedule is harmful and unnecessary and about making money.  I don't think anyone thinks that the pharmaceutical companies don't make money.

I think the opinion expressed by the Facebook people is silly.  I also don't think it's necessary to delay vaccines unless there are special circumstances, and severely delaying or not vaccinating at all is scary.

    Edit:  spelling

I do hope though that you know not all people delaying some vaccines are doing it for these reasons. I am delaying some because I believe it is best for my son. I don't really care either if you or others find it necessary or not, because I do. I think it's silly also to put your child at risk for diseases thought because the pharma companies are making money. My ped. is also but I wouldn't stop bringing my child there. I want him to make money so he'll continue to be a ped.

  • This is (obviously) a very controversial subject.  My feeling is that each parent only wants what's best for their child.  Some feel it's vaccinating according to the CDC schedule, other's an altered schedule, and still others no vaccines at all.  Because we are each trying to make the best informed decision that we can live with regarding our children's health, I feel that we should not judge others for whatever decision they make.  Even if you don't agree with them, that doesn't mean you should rip into them for making that decision.  The parent is obviously not trying to harm their child in any way and is only wanting what is best (in their opinion) for their child.

  • JoyW11,

I am replying about a different topic that you wrote about some time back (the topic is closed now, so I could not reach you there). I am a pediatric ICU nurse in South Carolina. My unit is having a terrible time with our babies and diaper rashes (I know this sounds familiar). I was wondering, was there any research done concerning your PICU paste? I am a part of a quality improvement team at our hospital and I really want to start suggesting changes, but (of course) they want written documentation showing improvement through changes. We use Pampers diapers and pampers wipes. We often order Desitin, stoma powder, and Cavilon wipes currently and create a "crust". I am not a fan of this, as when you change diapers and try to wipe their bottom, you get a poopy smear of the paste or you would have to rub pretty hard to get the paste off. I would love to hear and suggestions you may have concerning this. Sorry I posted on a different wall! I just didn't know how else to reach you!
