As a boys name hmm I always heard it as a girls. Either way thanks
I believe it started as a boy name and has slowly transitioned to unisex (depending on who you ask.....all of the baby name books I have say it is unisex). But all of the Reagan's that I know are female except one little boy (who's mom's maiden name was Reagan so she used it as his first name)
But it actually on my Top 5 for girls names right now....

I know three Reagans. One is a co-worker (male). The other two are the most adorable little girls (4 and 6). I think it's cute for a girl. I actually think of it as a girls name and think it sounds weird for a guy.
Maybe you have to live on the East Coast to realize this, but a lot of people still dislike Ronald Reagan, will have bad associations with the name, and will assume a child is named that because the parents are big Republicans. Even if you are, why would you want your kid to be branded like that?
My daughter is Reagan so obviously I love it. Oh and we are on the East Coast and happen to love Ronald Reagan! She is not named for the president MH and I just happened to like the name.
Meaning unknown, probably of Celtic origin. Shakespeare took the name from earlier British legends and used it in his tragedy 'King Lear' (1606) for a treacherous daughter of the king. In the modern era it has appeared in the horror movie 'The Exorcist' (1973) belonging to a girl possessed by the devil.

Agree that Regan (REE-gan) is nice, though.
BRANDED. REALLY?!? I cannot stand the cheating, hypocritical Kennedy's, but I would never hold that against someone with that name.
Or the various Jesus or Muhammads for being named after a a regligious figure.
If you are THAT much of a political lemming, that you cannot look at a child born 20 years after the man's presidency and 7 years after his death, you need to look hard at yourself.
BTW - I named my daughter Reagan after watching the movie The Exorcist. Yeah, the little girl was possessed, but the name was still very very very pretty.

This. I love the name itself, but would never use it because of the association. I also agree that (REE-gan) is a cute alternative.

I would never hold it against someone for having that name, or the parents for choosing it--I just wouldn't choose it myself. To each their own.
I love it! And I thought of using it if we have another girl next time around. BUT since I want my first son to be named Lyndon (a family name), I decided against it. I don't want people to think I am going with a Presidential theme.
Isn't this just a girls name anyways? I have never heard of it used for a boy, but I absolutely LOVE this name.. I suggested it if we have a girl, but then realized a Meagan (my boy friends daughters name) and a Reagan would be a little too matchy matchy lol

I think I really like it. I have never known any personally. Obviously there is the president, then yes the exorcist but more recently from ?up All Night? I didn?t think it was trendy because those are the only references I have known and was surprised to hear some of you having had use it. On a trendy note I do like Harper, but with the bechkams that will be waaaaay to trendy. Our first choice was always ella but that?s just gotten to big.

Our first choice was Ella at one point also and then we threw out the name Reagan and she was named. We never looked back and TBH I would not name my child Ella now.
I dislike it. It is not feminine, and I wouldn't want to saddle my child with the political association. The reality is that A LOT of people will think Ronald Reagan first when they hear the name.

hmm.. I live on the east coast, and have never once associated the name with Ronald Reagan..

I know three Reagans... a woman in her upper 20s, a boy in HS, and a newborn baby girl.
I think I like it better for a girl than a boy, but I'm not sure that I would use it.

The girl in the Exorcist was REE-gan.

I dislike it. It's not feminine to me at all.
Plus it will always remind me of the Exorcist.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned this yet:
I love the name Reagan it is my DD#2 name. I also love the meaning of the name.
Gender: Girl
Origin: Irish
