Intense Pelvic Pain :(

I'm 30 weeks, and have started to have some really intense pain in my whole pelvic area. Hips, pubic bone, inner thighs, along the bottom of my belly, it basically feels like all the muscles are pulled. It's to the point where there is no comfortable way to sit/stand/lay/walk. And trying to roll over in bed or shift positions in a chair is a nightmare!

Is this something normal with twins? I'm seeing my OB in the morning and I'm going to be talking to her about it, but I was wondering if any of you have experience in this area.

Re: Intense Pelvic Pain :(

  • i had this too...but it subsided around week 32.  my twins were really really low and causing so much pressure.  what helped me was sitting on an excessive ball and rolling on it to reduce pain. hope you feel better...!

  • Yes- look up SPD in the Babycenter, it exPlains it. I got it terrible at 16 weeks. I laid down for 2 days, used warm compresses and warm baths really helped, now it mainly affects me when I sleep and turn, not during the day. GL it's awful!

  • Yep, I suddenly started experiencing the pulled muscle feeling in the bottom of my belly about a week ago. And it is hell. I alleviate the pain with some Tylenol. MFM said its from all the weight of the uterus pushing on my pelvic bone, which is linked by what is essentially like a joint. The "joint" is under a ton if pressure, and it hurts like a ***. Warned not to make any sudden movements, as this could separate the joint altogether, leading to unstable pelvis. It's not dangerous, just a HUGE PITA. She said it'll go back to normal after delivery.

As for the pain in the rest of your pelvic area, I can sympathize with you there too. Again, Tylenol helps somewhat. My pain became ridiculous after I stopped taking Indomethacin at 32 weeks (it's an anti-inflammatory). I was totally not expecting all the extra pain, but I just gotta deal. Nothing to do but wait for delivery. Good luck.

  • Does it feel like you rode a horse all day long and then didn't stretch? If so, I also had that pain. I could hardly walk by week 33 when they put me on bedrest.

  • YES!!!

That's what I've been saying--it's like I rode a horse all day. On Tues night I went to a birthday party at a restaurant and sat on a really hard chair for like an hour and a half. By the end I was in so much pain I was cranky and sweating all down my back and butt and legs. I am still not recovered.

This pain started up for me at 8 weeks and has come and gone ever since. Some weeks when I walk too much I feel my sciatic nerve pinching deep in my butt. It doesn't shoot down my legs but it stays painful in my butt muscle. Some weeks I have the overall "horse riding" soreness.

It is annoying but most of the time it's constant, and I can learn to ignore that. The acute surprise pain is what gets me! YEEEOWWWCH.

  • I remember this but it was only really intense for a day...I was 28 weeks, I only remember b/c it was at Thanksgiving and family was here... I couldn't pick up my 2 yo or hardly go up the stairs. Actually, I tried picking up DD and it brought tears to my eyes it hurt so bad!

For me, taking a hot bath made it a lot better. Feel better!

  • Please update us on what your OB says.  I've been seriously worried about this exact type of pain and everyone (OB, MFM, other MoMs) acts like it's a normal part of a twin pregnancy.  Mine does not go away and has been here and getting worse every week.  I will have a couple of "good/better" days, but then the pain always comes back with a vengeance.

It's been making me feel like a pathetic wimp because it seems like some women who carry twins are champs at carrying them and I suck at it because of the intense misery I'm in.  It also makes me worry about the babies:(  Please update us & thanks for posting this!!!!
