Ugh, R is on his second cold and I am sick now too....sore throat, stuffy/runny nose, and blah feeling. I just can't help thinking that bf'ing kept us healthy last year! I know kids get sick, but he didn't last season....and neither did I.
I was hoping his last cold was going to be it, but I fear I am wrong. I was on the fence with flu shots....but I think I would prefer to have them and keep the flu away!
Re: This winter is going to suck (illness)
I hear ya. I think I am coming down with Bronchitis myself. And I have no idea what is safe to take.
D prefers me to not get a flu shot but its ultimately up to me. He asks why do they tell pg women to not eat a lot of tuna because of mercury but then turn around and push the flu shot which is made out of mercury. But then I hear of pg women that almost die because they got the flu. Ugh my head wants to explode lol.
We have all been sick in our house too. Daycare germs are the worst!!! Evan had a fever the 2nd week of daycare (that lasted a week), I had bronchitis then a sinus infection, now DH has a terrible head cold/sinus thing and was up coughing all night and Evan has had a stuffy/runny nose too. Plus, everyone I work with has been sick. It's like the germs are just being circled around... yuck!
Evan went for his flu vaccine last week.
Ellie is getting over a cold herself. She seemed a lot better last night and slept well, but this morning woke up with her eye all goopy and red, ugh.
We didn't do the flu shot for ellie this year. DH is pretty against it. I think that next year if she is in some type of preschool program or if situations change and she is in daycare, I will push for it. I got it for myself like I do every year because I am surrounded and have to interact with sick people all the time. And working in a small environment also, if 1 other employee gets something, it goes thru us all. FWIW Riviera, I just get the perservative-free (no thimersol which is mercury-based) shot while pregnant and nursing and feel comfortable with that.
I think we went 2 weeks into the new school year, and he ended up with a cold, which he gave to me and DH. For me, the cold turned into a whole lot of sinus problems that I'm just now feeling as though they are over. I've noticed over the last couple of days, though, that his nose has started running again. Oh joy.
DS and I both got our flu vaccines last week. I typically get them because of my asthma.
@Riviera - Most likely you'll have to wait until your 2nd tri to get a flu shot, anyway, and you can always ask if your doctor has themerisol-free vaccines. My OB was the one that wanted me to get a flu shot when I was pg, and she didn't care if it was the regular type. Hope you're feeling better soon!
Rosie got a cold almost immediately after she weaned, and I felt so awful. She now gets a cold about every 2 months, on the dot, even in the summer. They are so annoying, but we now know exactly what to do when she gets one- elevate her mattress, humidifier, and the Vicks plug in vaporizer.
We all got flu shots, but that's because Thomas can't get one until February, and who knows if we'll get it for him then. The last thing I want is a baby with the flu.
The girls both had mild colds last week. They both still have a bit of a cough but only at night. I, on the other hand, currently have a sinus infection and bronchitis, after having a nasty head cold the past two weeks. I was really bummed because DH and I were supposed to have date night for my birthday this past weekend and instead I spent the majority of the weekend in bed.
We all got the flu shot here. We've always gotten them and never had any issues. Ditto pp about getting it while pg and bf'ing, I did with both girls and was able to find the thimerisol-free versions at quite a few places. The flu hits LOs and pregnant women so much worse than other people. It just isn't a risk we are willing to take here.
@OliviaEve...flu season runs til May so if you can get it for him in February it would be worth it!
Yes it is. Abby came down with a cold last weekend(at least we think it was a cold) and then got diagnosed with strep throat on Wed. Now she definitely has a cold. I'm just waiting for that to turn into an ear infection. She was nice enough to share her cold with me and I just got over a viral throat infection(my strep test was negative).
We decided not to give her the flu shot. DH is against them and we do not know if she is allergic to eggs. She will not eat them no matter how we prepare them. We will know soon since she just had the blood test done. I am suppose to get the shot since I have asthma but normally choose not to get it due to being allergic to eggs. I did try to get it last year and had asthmatic symptoms after the shot. Luckily I didn't have an attack and my doctor's office was smart enough to make me wait to see if I reacted.
I agree! Hope you have a healthy house very soon. It seems like we just keep passing sickness from one person to another.
We both got the flu shot at her 18 month appt. Her pedi gave me my shot, I was surprised she did that. We both have asthma so it's highly recommended that we get the shot.
Feel better!
