going abroad for IVF?

Has anyone else heard of this? I saw this ad for a fertility clinic in the Barbados. They claim to do IVF cycles for half what it costs in the US. Is this for real, or a scam? I would be so skeptical of a clinic that offers low cost treatments. Anyone heard of someone actually doing this?

I toyed with the idea of a trip to Mexico city for IVF. The prices are pretty good, and I think at some of the high-end clinics in foreign countries, you are likely to get good, quality service.

 The downside: if you are doing IVF with your OE, you have to be there for about 2 weeks, and it is not exactly a vacation. The way I am feeling now 7 days into stimming is like an overstuffed pin cushion. I think a lot of the cost savings you get from going abroad will be eaten up by living expenses while you are there, unless you know someone you can stay with.

My solution to this was to get myself into a clinical trial-- that essentially gave me IVF right at home for the same it would cost in a high end clinic in Mexico.

I heard Costa rica is good. the ivf is done in panama b/c illegal in CR but the clinic is in costa rica. I met an older man in his 50's who told us his wife went there and loved it. costa rica is a great place for R/R too. cost about 5,000 i think.

I did an IVF cycle in Czech Republic this past March.  Cost $4500 for one cycle.  It was an awesome experience and I've met many woman whom I still keep in touch with.  My myself I feel that they are geared more torwards DE cycles.  I only produced 7 follicles with them and that is the worst I have ever done.  The prices may be cheap but please do your research thoroughly.  There are alot of woman who are successful there.  I just wasn't one of them.  My progesterone was never checked and I was taken off some of my progesterone on transfer day which I never questioned them about but I feel that may of made a difference in my outcome.

You are taking your reproductive system into tour own hands then... I wouldn't trust a caribbean islands fertility procedures personally. Heck if I broke my arm there on vacation I would fly back to the USA hospital!

this is something that I would certainly consider. I have had the website to myivfalternative.com in the Chz. Republic   a fav. on my computer for a couple of years now. Since my final IUI was a fail I have certainly had going elsewhere for IVF on my mind. I always said I would be open to adoption and so I  would be open to DE. I for sure would want to have to best chance of success so I would probably use DE since my IUI's on pretty hefty meds. produced only three follicles. There are many websites on ivf vacations.....the prices from location to location vary vastly. India is very cheap.

Ofcourse my RE said it was not a good idea. He has had some patients from his other clincs go to India......RE says that they just didn't do some of the background workups to ensure success........I trust RE but ofcourse he would not advise it......he wants the $$$$ kept here.

My H and I would probably would have done Ivf in Albania or Greece ,it's cheaper and I know the healthcare. This is also because my H is from Albania so we have apartment there and cost of living wouldn't be an issue...but please do research and talk to ppl that have used these facilitates.
