When will i be normal again..TMI!

Are any of you mom's still having issues having bowel movements?  I'm just over 7 weeks post partum and going to the bathroom has never been so difficult.  I went for my 6 week check last week, (never brought this issue up because i'm embarrassed), but she said everything looked good and normal.  HOwever, everytime i go to the bathroom it hurts because now i have hemorrhoids.  I also don't have a bowel movement for days despite the fact that i'm taking my prenatal that has a stool softner plus colace.  When i do have a  bm it usually either takes for ever because i feel like it gets stuck and my insides are going to come out or I end up having such a large bm that it clogs the toilet.  Is anyone else having these issues or know what may be going on?  I had a normal vaginal birth, just doesn't make sense that i would be having these issues still.  If anyone could offer advice that would be wonderful.  I'm beginning to think that i may have to bite the bullet and contact my OB :(

  • Have you tried changing your diet for a little bit?

  • have you tried drnking a small amount of prune juice a day? helps smooth things along. Also witch hazel pads would help with the roids

    :) good luck!!

  • I kind of had this issue but it didn't last as long for me.  I think I did it to myself b/c I was so scared to actually try and go after I had DS.  Once I finally gave in and tried, it seemed like it took a few days to actually be somewhat "regular" again but I didn't feel back to normal for a couple of weeks.  I would definitely call your OB.  I'm sure you're medically fine but I can imagine you're pretty uncomfortable!  Good luck :)

  • Miralax was my best friend after delivery.  You can put it in whatever drink you like (coffee, soda, juice, water) once day.  It has no flavor or texture and works great to keep things soft and moving so hemorrhoids can heal.  I took it daily for the first couple weeks.
  • My hemorrhoids came back yesterday and I too am in hella pain when I have a BM. My diet is very balanced, I'm drinking tons of water, and I eat prunes like crazy. However, I am sitting alot while breastfeeding and I never get any excercize. I'm going to try to walk DS every day. I may also look into some of the suggestions PP said. I'm with ya though...these are SERIOUSLY painful when having a BM. SERIOUSLY.

  • No advice here, just commiseration. I'm in the same boat. :/
  • the end of PG and the first 6wks PP were awful BM-wise.  small hemorroid from about 32wks pg until 7wks that annoyed me.  then there was the lack of going...thankfully i am pretty close to my pre-PG schedule.

  • Have you tried a heating pad on your lower abdomen? A nurse made me use one to help move things along before she would release me from the hospital after my c-section. It helped!

Also, apple juice and prune juice work well for me.

  • I'm in the same boat, and I didn't even have a normal vaginal birth! I think it was the daily dosage of ibuprofen that clogged me up, because my fiber intake is already pretty high. That, plus I was bouncing on a yoga ball about 15 hours a day tryin to calm LO down, which did not help.

  • I ask myself this every day! I dread going to the bathroom because I usually end up gritting my teeth and gripping the side of the sink in pain. FWIW, Preparation H medicated wipes and stool softeners have been helping a little... not quite as much as I'd like. Try drinking aloe vera juice in the morning, it's nasty but keeps you regular and softens the blow a bit :)

  • I had a 3rd degree tears through the whole length of my vag.  (sorry TMI) and for 8 weeks it hurt to do both of my businesses in the bathroom.  It gets better with time and keep taking your softeners, witch hazel pads, and eat a couple prunes a day.  I'm about 12 weeks out now and I'm completely fine now.

(But just as a heads up, don't use tampons during your first period because it hurts like hell)

  • i would try a stool softner, docusate sodium. you can get it at any drug store where the laxatives are. take one twice a day and see if that doesn't help. once you feel a little more "regular", you can stop taking them or cut back to one a day. I would recommend you continue to take them as long as you are on the prenatal because they are so constipating by themselves. You could also drink more water and limit foods that are constipating for you. By softening the stool it won't irritate your hemorrhoids. For topical rellief for those, try Tucks pads. Hang in there, this too will pass. I had four hemorrhoids after delivery and an episiotomy and the only way I could have a bowel movement was standing up! So I completely understand the pain and frustration. Also if you still have your "peri bottle" from the hospital, squirting that area with some warm water after a BM will help it feel better and keep it clean. A detatchable showerhead works great too! GL!
