Babies: 6 - 9 Months

i've had it!

Rolling over and crawling around is adorable, but on the changing table it is the most frustrating thing in the world. P just had a blowout, then proceeded to roll around in it and literally got it from head to toe Indifferent

I used to have a few small changing table toys that didn't leave the shelf above his table. They kept him occupied until about a week ago. I switched out the toys, but he still doesn't care. It's apparently way more fun to flip over and scooch up to the diaper caddy thing and try to grab lotion, diapers and other "toys"... oh and to play with poop.

Anyone have a magic weapon for keeping little rolling pins still on the changing table?

Re: i've had it!

  • Place a mirror behind the changing table for them to look at.

  • I'm so sorry! I am literally LOL because I have no advice but you just described our situation and I'm so happy I'm not alone! Stick out tongue
  • Let him play with the bulb aspirator or something "safe" that isn't an actual toy.

I give DS a wipe, an extra diaper, the bulb aspirator, his brush, a bottle of lotion, really anything that isn't a toy that he can safely play with for a few seconds. Works like a charm.

The aspirator is his favorite right now. I showed him that it blows air (squeezed it and blew some air on his cheeks), so he works on trying to squeeze it so he can blow air in his own face. Keeps him occupied through even the biggest poop diapers.

  • Sometimes I change her on the floor on a towel.  Kind of defeats the purpose of having a changing table, but I seem to be able to control her a *little* better on the floor!  I used to sing this one version of Days of Week at all diaper changes and she would stop and listen intently, but that doesn't work anymore.  I have tried letting her look at safe items, but she would also rather roll over and try to crawl away.  So, I'm right there w you.....

  • I have the same issue...posted about this about 2 days ago...I have been singing to him silly little songs or I give him an empty water bottle to play with sometimes it works and sometimes not...I find changing him on the floor is even harder though since he flips himself over and crawls away at least on the changing table I can grab him quicker.

  • I gave up on our changing table and set up shop on a spare bed. Once he's clean, I let him roll over and put the diaper on while he's on his belly. Not worth the struggle.

When we had company coming, I had DH screw a mirror above his changing table (screwed it tight so he won't pull it down) and now the changing table is functional again!

My poor mother tried to change a poopy diaper this morning. Poor woman didn't stand a chance.

  • Haha! This post made me laugh a little as I've been having the same thing!

So far I seem to have stopped the rolling by firmly holding him in place and firmly saying no. That way he new what I was saying no to. It took about 2 days and it apparently finally clicked that he wasn't supposed to roll during diaper changes. Now it rarely happens. As for the grabbing poop before you can grab their hands??? I got nothin! LOL!

LOVE THIS!  Made my Friday!  Sorry you had to scrub the wall, but glad you shared so we could all have a chuckle.

  • ya, P has done some butt prints of poo on his wall too!  At first I got so mad, but then I decided to just laugh about it.

I've tried the changing table "toys" (aspirator, lotion, etc.) but he got bored with those after awhile too. Now I think he's just flipping over to piss me off. I try not to react anymore becuase I feel like I was making it a game. Every time he flipped i'd say no and flip him over, but maybe that was fun!  LOL  Now I ignore him, let him roll and just get the clean diaper on however I can. Really the only issue is when he has a big poop. By the time I'm on wipe #2, he has rolled around, kicked the old diaper onto the floor, smeared poop onto his belly... it's just a mess.

We recently had a party for FIL and there were balloons- he left one balloon here. A big yellow foil smiley face. P loves it.  I have been letting it float above his changing table and that's working for now. But helium only lasts so long...
